1960 tranny question
 

I have two 60 F100.
On the first truck. The 292 was replaced with a 223 and a three speed tranny. Column shift.
Numbers on this trans are AF-7006-D 23 . ID anyone?

The other has a 223 with a T 98-1C WG DIV bolted to it. Floor shift. I was assuming that this trans. was original because the floor pan is factory cut and the two piece drive line appears to be factory installed also. But when decoding this truck ( trans code A) it doesn't add up ?

I guess the big question is. Which is a better trans?
And should I use the 3.70 rearend or the 3.89.
I will be running a stock 223 with single carb.

I'm just trying to utilize what I have out of the THREE trucks I purchased.
The only thing I will be needing in the end is a floor mat and head liner. NICE !

The T98 is a stronger trans, but isn't very well suited for cruising.

That's not the ID number from the transmission, that's the ID number off the transmission case itself. I can't find a cross reference for it.

Look on the case before the AF and see if is there's a C1 anywhere.

Ford didn't always have these case numbers together, so it could be C1AF: 1961/62 Ford 3 speed L/D transmission, non syncro first.

hey there, i just recenlty was given a 60 f100 by my friend who moved to california and couldnt take it, he had a 57 that he and i just completed and a ch$%^ impala. we used the 60 as a parts truck. i do need a right front fender and hood, as mine are in rough shape. let me know if you have these and maybe we can arrange a deal?

I would recommend not using either rearend gears if your sticking to stock tire size. I have the 223, single barrel, and four on the floor in my sixty.and it had 3.89 and I put in 3.25. Much better all around. I thought about 3.00, glad that I didn't. It does good at starting out and at cruising 70 down the freeway.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be running 15"ers. Not looking for a Hot-rod. Just want to keep it as close to stock as I can. I don't do much freeway driving anyhow. And again,WITH THE PRICE OF GAS!, who wants to?
