My wallet vs. 31' E-450 V10 Motorhome's MPG
 

Whose gonna come out ahead with the least amount of damage? :-X10

I leave tomorrow to fly to Phoenix where I pick up a Sunseeker 31' class-C, V10 powered, 5R110 & 4.10 geared motorhome for a trek across the country to the Cincinnati area. I'll have my wife and four kids :-hair with me for the three weeks that we'll be traveling.

I'm banking on 6MPG but am shooting for 8MPG. Think I can get 8?

I would probably get 6 mpg. If I wanted to get 8-10 mpg I would have to let my wife drive. Sounds like a fun trip. Come on out to MD & I'll run an extension cord & water hose out to you :)

It depends on the route that you take. Out West you will probably be encountering a lot of mountains and hills so I'd count on the 6ish. Once you get to the central US like NE, IA, IL and western OH you should see an increase. Like mentioned above though, it will all depend on how heavy your right foot is.

We rented a similar rig in Alaska a couple years ago. Mostly did 8-10 mpg, but keep in mind that many of the roads up there aren't friendly for much speed in a top heavy, poor handling, rattle trap of a brick. On better roads carrying more speed, I can see 6 mpg being a reality.

My plan is to stay around 60ish. I'll also be going a flatter route (I40). I'll keep y'all informed. :) Funny...to me gas is gonna be cheap! Just went to $4.65 this morning in town.

I can do 8 to 9 MPG with our 31' Jayco. However remember these weren't made for mileage, they are made for fun.....so have some fun.

Ha ha ha... yeah, right. 60mph. That might last until you get to the TX panhandle and the lure of that long, straight highway is too much and you can't resist the temptation of 80mph. :D The only thing that might keep you going slower is the wind. Be prepared as we have a lot of it!

On the bright-side, gas is UP to $3.89/gal here. From what I hear, that's pretty cheap compared to other locations, so burn all you want. We'll make more. ;)

Don't forget that some places like Wal-Mart and Flying-J will allow RVers to park overnight. That can really help save some money by not having to pay for a campsite. Plus, a lot of camps may be booked due to the holiday.

It sounds like it is goin to be a fun trip. Dont forget the pics. I think ull achieve 6 mpgs but to bad that rear end isnt 4.30s or better yet 4.88's :( LOL

Well I'm in AZ now. We drove from Phoenix (110*!!!) up to Williams today and managed 7.5 mpg. It was quite a climb! Nothing sounds like a V10 at WOT @4500RPM! Could only get it to 50mph up some of those passes.

We have a 99 Coachman Leprachaun 31 FT. with the V10. Here on the east coast, I get about 8.5 MPG.

That PHX to Williams drive is quite an up-hill event. Enjoy the scenery while you can. It will only get worse the farther this way you get. ;)
