ford red or yellow for my yblock??
I just got a 1960 yblock and 4 speed trans from lastchance56,and now ready to paint the engine.
My other yblocks are yellow--and are correct 1956 272 engines in my trucks. This one is red/orange and question is--Should I paint it red? It is a 292 and from a 1960,and the trans looks different than my 56 trans.. The truck is a stock 1956 F100, and I need to ask you guys what you would do. Thanks guys----Bill:confused::-X25 |
I am going to paint store now,and will make up my own mind there ,I guess. Wish someone would influence me one way or another. I'LL BE BACK!! Bill

I would paint it red. If all your other one's are yellow then do red to make it different. Are you going for all original oe just a nice driver. The 272 in my 55 fairlane is red and it looks good. My block is red and valve covors are black and my air cleaner is silver.

Thanks guys! I bought red and yellow and primed it and will most likely paint it this week. I am not a purist--but not a dark-sider--I build what I like. But--sometimes I need some input--like this. What trans do you think this is? I believe the other trucks have a t98 and what would the 4 speed be in 1960? Bill

I say paint it yellow, but what do I know? :-X18 Red just reminds me of small block Chevys, for some reason. Yellow is different.

I found a spray paint can today in my garage and it had Ford Red No. 602 or 802. I'll look and recheck for you.

i vote yellow. my 312 was yellow and i just painted a 351 yellow. looks real good with all the aluminum and chrome

Yeah I'm voting yellow too! (Yellow is right for a 55)
I have a couple of cans of John Deere yellow. It'll look great! I'll do the acc in black and the trans in black too. My Rams Horns are ceramic coated flat black. |
Why not paint the block red, the heads yellow and the valve covers in...

Case marked 4TDB -some of the marks were painted on, some were stamped. |
RC--That is a cool engine!! Love it. N.D. Always knows the answer!! Thanks. I bought the por15 primer/and red and yellow.....I have only primed it. I am thinkin red. But.......WILL FOLKS LOOK AT MY 56 AND SAY---OH---IT SHOULD BE YELLOW??........So.......all my other trucks are yellow, except my 1971 sport custom and it is a 302. Well ,the new 56 will be a nice driver. No big money spent on it. Just a nice near original driver that will be nice to drive around. I am done doing show vehicles.....OH BEFORE I FORGET....went to a show in Lorain and saw my old 440 6pac roadrunner, and wow it still looked great!! Isn't cool when you see your old car/truck and it is still nice?? ANYWAY---red or yellow?? ........Julie---my wife likes your answer...too much masking, though!!! haha!!! Bill

I went totally through one of my last Sunbeam Alpines (a '67) and sold it to an airline stewardess in 1978/79-ish. In '87, some gal got in touch with me, saying she wanted to have me put an engine in her '63, and I would get an Alpine in trade. I went and looked at it - it was that Alpine, but it had it's share of bumps and grinds. Opened the hood, though, and there wasn't a drop of oil or blemish under the hood! I was proud of that. While I was engine-swapping, she parked it on a hill, didn't set the brake, was in high-gear, and it rolled down the hill to the "T", and 'boned another car. So, she ended up paying me to swap the engine, PLUS I got the Alpine back. Took about a day, to pull the front out, since I had soooo many of them, I had custom pullers, etc, to bring it back into shape. Drove it until I left California. Funny how those things go...but you're right, I was saddened to see the body in such poor shape, but it had changed hands 2 or 3 times. R |
