Engine warning light - what does it mean?

Hello,

The light shaped as the outline of an engine in the instrument cluster stayed on when I drove my (2006) F250 this evening. I pulled over and checked the owners manual to find out about that light.

I found the light in the instrument cluster section, and it said to check the maintenance section. So I found the light in the maintenance section, and it said to see the instrument cluster section. So I found the light in the instrument cluster section, and it said to check the maintenance section. So I found the light in the maintenance section, and it said to see the instrument cluster section.

Well, after doing that for a while, and not finding any information, I decided to keep on driving, and post a question here when I got home. So, what does that light mean?

Thanks!
Bill

Could mean a lot of different things. You need to get it read by a diagnostic tool. You can buy one and do it yourself or get raped for it at the dealer. Some dealers will check them for free but I haven't heard of any good dealers in the San Jose area. I'm from Morgan Hill. I can only recommend Tiffany Ford in Hollister right at the end of highway 25 once you get into town. Or you can post your question on norcaldieselforum.com and there is a tech there that posts under the screen name strokin early 99 but I am unsure what dealership he works at. He could help you out.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a code reader to hopefully avoid a trip to the dealer. The truck only has 28K on it, so it's still under warranty. The things that light comes on for, are they usually covered under the warranty?

Doubledee715, You go to Hollister instead of Morgan Hill Ford? I almost bought from MH Ford, are they not very good? I will most likely be going to Frontier Ford when I have to take it in, since they are the closest to my house.

Since you have 28k it will definitely be covered under your bumper to bumper. I will never go to the ford store in morgan hill again. The service writer there, Greg (real big guy), lied straight to my face numerous times before I got onto the forums and figured it out on my own. You can buy a car from anywhere but their service department is a joke. I've heard good things about Frontier...but not so good things about their service bays. Like I said, I would go to norcaldieselforum.com and post a new thread asking for support from strokin early 99. He is a very knowledgeable tech that is personal friends with my tech that did my studs. If you post over there you can find out where he works and get your rig taken care of RIGHT the FIRST time instead of having to go back and forth and deal with BS dealers.

Code reader is nice to have, make sure the reader is CAN capable. Unfortunately that will rule out cheapie readers, they won't read newer Ford vehicles.
