Hard to start and check engine light after chip install
 

I got a new TW chip and im having problems starting the truck about 50% of the time. what ive found is if i turn the key to the on position and the glowplug and check engine lights dont go out right away and stay on the truck wont start, but if they go out it starts right up no problem. after its running it runs GREAT, and sometimes to dont get a check engine light at untill i mash the gas which could be a couple things overboost oil pressure.. but this afternoon driving home 40+ miles the check engine light came on about 10 min after starting and didnt go out. i cleaned the ecm by scraping the silicone off with my fingernail and using steel wool and wiped off the contacts with electronics parts cleaner. the chip is making good contact its on there tight and all the contacts you can see where the chip contacts have rubed on the ecm contacts. any ideas

Does the truck ever stall or sputter? My experience has been the glow plug light staying on in a no start condition means you have something shorting out to ground causing the PCM to go into continuous reset.

With the recent addition of the TW chip, it makes the install sound suspect. My problem was accompanied with the truck sputtering and dying sometimes in addition to the no start. Mine turned out to be a short in the main engine wiring harness. They're known to chaff and short out where it runs up and over the drivers side valve cover. You can also check those wires uphill from the valve cover to make sure they haven't been rubbing on a metal bracket (that's where my problem was)

A loose chip could cause the same problems. Have you taken it back apart and put it back together again to see if that's the problem?

I would pull the chip and go back to stock and see if the problem remains and if it doesn't , get on the horn to Tony and see what he says. We use a razor blade to scrape the contacts clean.

Re-clean the contacts, then tape the chip to the PCM to keep it from wiggling. Duct tape works great.
