Two Stroke Oil Test

Nothing scientific here but I just got back from a 1311 mile trip pulling my 27' 5er. Fully loaded we were 17,000 lbs. We traveled mountains and flats and about a hundred miles solo doing a little sight seeing. I used 1 oz. per gallon Wally World two stroke oil and my usual 1/2 oz. per gallon of White jug Power Service.
My overall MPG was 11.67 per gallon, traveling 58 to 62 MPH. The overall weather for the trip was fair and I probably traveled a little slower than usual because of high fuel costs. I think my overall mileage was higher than usual but can't really say if it was the additives or a lighter foot. I do believe that I'm getting better lubrication and a quieter engine so I will keep up this treatment in the future. Average diesel price was around $4.70 but my last fill up was $4.99, ouch!

i've been using 2 cy. oil and gray bottle for abouy two months now, and i like the combo too. truck is running smoother and better than usual mpg.

I have a trip planned in August to Yellowstone from Seattle.
I will try that combo and see how it works.
I'll have to buy that two stroke oil by the gallon, I have a very large Transfer Flow 98 gallon tank and along with the main tank I get about 130+ total fuel capacity.

It has been said on here once before and I will say it again. The use of two stroke oil is not recommended to be used as a fuel additive. It causes increased nitration and oxidation levels in your oil. In simple terms, it makes you engine oil go bad sooner. I would stick with a fuel additive that was designed as a fuel additive. I will admitt that I tried it once, but that was before I found out about the harmful effects.

Crap, :-bangheadI didn't know this at all. Are there any detramental effects running 2 cyl. oil, like engine failure or something like that you are aware of?

jrciii56 06-04-2008 04:07 PM

No, I have not seen any engines fail because of this or any immediate damage over the short term. It's the continual use that will lead to problems. If I were you I would dump your current oil and change it with fresh oil and you should be okay.

Jamie, not trying to call you out and be a jerk but where is the evidence? I used it for about 6 months - it increased mileage by about 1 and quieted down the engine by ALOT. The oil did seem a bit dirtier and my fuel filter was FILTHY (posted about it). I would love to see a oil analysis to put this myth to rest once and for all. I dont use it anymore because a local station started to carry bio diesel (b20). 5cents cheaper and better additive then 2 cycle. I would love to put this all to rest - lets try to get an anaylsis done

I have a hard time believing that adding a little oil to diesel will ruin my motor. It also makes sense that the fuel filter would appear much dirtier than normal because of the oil additive.
Kwikk, WW sells that oil by the gallon. Thats the way I buy it.
The last large car that I had I added a quart of ATF once a month to the fuel for almost 900,000 miles before I sold the truck, and it was still running fine. It did however have a different injection system than the late model engines.

Joe,
Give me soom time and let me see what I get. Thanks

cookie88 06-04-2008 04:54 PM

I stopped using it. When I first added it my fuel economy jumped up....then I ran out and all the subsequent tanks have maintained the higher milage on straight #2. This truck has always been a 17-17.5 MPG summer vehicle and every tank this spring has been at least 18.1 and is averaging about 18.4. I have no explanation for it other than I did the 140v. IDM mod about the same time I added the first tank of two cycle.....

Memorial day weekend I put 400 miles towing an empty flatbed and got 17.3, then on he return trip I got 15.4 with a 96 Grand Marquis on the trailer.

I don't know what changed about either the truck or the fuel....but I'm happy about it. :)

Im gonna try contacting the company that does the oil analysis. I think their name is blackstone? They should be able to lead us in the right direction

I am waiting to here back from Schaeffer's Chief Chemist. I have already talked to the lady over the lab. I will report what they say when I get some more info.

empiretc 06-04-2008 10:10 PM

i did like the results, but decided I would stop using it until I got some good scientific data on it. since I am running homemade bio, I have to abandon it since I do not want to mix them.
