I have a question. Im thinking about changing my truck over to 12 volt and having my generator up graded to a 12 volt. I read that besides changing all my lights,i would have to put a ingnition ballast resistor in the wire before the coil. This may sound dum. But here is my question. Why cant i just change the coil, points and the condenser in the distributor to 12 volts to. Then besides the engine turning over faster. It will get more power or spark to the plugs from the 12 volt. Is that true,or is it stupid thinking. O by the way its a 1950 truck :-huh

Yours should have a resistor on it now. You will definitely want to put one on. You could in addition tap of the solenoid and send the full 12volts to the coil during start up and about 7volts other wise.

Make sure you find a solenoid with the two small screws on the front, one goes to the starter terminal either on the ignition switch or push button. The other one will go past the resistor.

I wired this wrong once and the resistor lit up like an electric heater coil. :-fire
