New here...No blinkers
 

first off im new here, so hi to everyone. i have a 1984 F250, 1979 F150, and a 1974 F100. well on my 84 250 i just picked up the blinkers arent working, no reverse lights either, however my hazards work fine...no idea all the fuses are fine, i hate electrical crap....

Swap the hazard flasher with the turnsignal flasher and see if that fixes the turnsignal lights(I think they will swap).

Check your fuses again. Looks good doesn't mean it is. 15 Amp Blue fuse. Turn Signal and Backup lamps.

The Backup lamps, and the turn signals are on the same circut. So it has to be a blown fuse, defective Fuse panel or defective or mis adjusted ignition switch.

Start with the simplest first. Get a test light.

Check for power at the fuse on both sides with the ignition switch in the run position.

If power is on one side of the fuse, but not the other, replace the fuse. If it keeps blowing fuses we will have to check the wiring etc..

If no power on either side of the fuse, then we will have to check the ignition switch next.

Chexk back in on what you discover, and we will go from there.

hey yea i checked all that, fuses are good, double checked with test light and voltemeter. so im assuming it might be the ignition switch?

Ok, that means you are not getting power to the fuse, is that correct?

If that's the case you need to check the Blower motor circut. With the ignition switch in the run position, check to see if your blower motor works. If it works then your turn signal problem is inside the fuse panel itself, because the ignition switch powers both the turn signals and the blower motor fuses, using the same grey/yellow wire.

If the blower motor doesn't work either, then you will have to check the grey/yellow stripe wire coming out of the igniton switch plug. With the ignition switch in run position you should get power at that grey/yellow wire.

If not, then it's either the switch, or it's out of adjustment.

If you do have power, then there is a problem with the grey/yellow wire between the ignition switch and the fuse panel.

yea my blower motor isnt working either so im guessing its my ignition switch

After you turn the key to start and the engine is running, wiggle the key a little bit to center it back in the run position and see if everything starts working again. A common problem with these trucks.

Good advice, and if it does start to work again, you can possibly fix this by adjusting the ignition switch, if it's not too badly worn.

If wiggling don't work, and you have no power at the grey/yellow wire coming out of the ignition switch plug in run. Then I'd replace the switch.

Wiggling the key in my 80 got so it was habit, and I caught myself doing it in all my other vehicles. Now that I have this diesel, I catch myself turning the key and "waiting to start" on all my vehicles, even though it's the only diesel I have except the lawnmower.

Hi, all! I just got a 1984 I-6 shortbed 4x4 automatic (for only $650, which should speak to the wonderful condition it's in!). I found this thread because I, too, have the same mysterious turn signal problem. So, I thought I'd bump this thread up and say thanks to everyone who posted in here.

I'm not much of a do-it-yourself mechanic, so I'm hoping to really learn a lot with my new old truck, so your guidance is really appreciated. Thanks!
