Need a shade of orange for 79 f-250
I am painting my 1979 F-250 orange with a black stripe down the side, and black roof top and top back of cab. I tried to look up some shades of orange close to origional but I didn't even see an orange for 1979 trucks on the paint chip code. The closest thing was Chrome Yellow (?) from 1979. I did however find a Tangarine orange from 1974 but I think it might be too dark of a shade to accent with black. Does anybody on here have a paint shade name or code for a medium orange that would go good with black? Was there ever a shade called just "orange"?
Thanks TheBlueMule |
It won't be possible to get the poor quality of factory paint with modern paints... Orange looks great on these trucks, especially with a black accent. I used House of Kolor Orange to pinstripe my motorcycle, it has a little bit of pearl in it. It is a good medium orange that isn't too bright but still has an eye catching shine to it.

I have always called my factory 76 F250 custom "pumpkin". But I can't promise that is the correct terminology for this orange.

The paint code charts in the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog says this for 1976: Y = Yellow Orange. If Y isn't the PAINT code, post what your paint code is. If tutone, there will be two paint codes. Ford also had several shades of Ginger and Nectarine, which can be taken for Orange. |
I have a 76 F-100 that is orange and the paint color code is H. Photos of my orange truck with white pin striping are available in my album to view.
Good luck. |

H = 1976 = MEDIUM COPPER |
I think the best shade of orange w/black is like what gm called hugger orange - I know both FoMoCo and mopar had very similar shades back in this era. Don't remember mopar's funky name, but Ford/Mercury might have used competition or grabber orange...?

it looks like you already did the paint chip thing, but here is a site that has a bunch and you can do some searching.
I have it set on the 79 year for you, but you can search other makes, etc. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.asp...truck-pg01.jpg |
Check out my gallery. If you like that color I'll dig up the paint codes for you.

That is perfect. I talked too you a little bit before about your paint but you didn't give me a deffinate code. If you don't mind looking for it, I would greatly appreciate it. I was looking at a hugger orange earlier. I like it a lot but I was trying to see what Ford had that was close. I really like Gregg's color though. Thank you all for helping. I really appreciate it. All you guys have been so helpful in the process of restoring my truck. Thanks TheBlueMule |

Colors are Coral/Pastel Sand. Same as Psquare's. I think the paint code is VR but not sure. I'm looking at a piece of paper that I can't make out to well. If that doesn't work I'll get them off the door for you.
