Rear Axle ID Help

I have a homemade forklift that I got last summer. The drive axle is an old Ford truck axle with full floating eight lug hubs. It has 12 x 1 3/4 brakes and it has a tag on it with some numbers stamped in it. The info on the tag is DTA Co., model #51524H-X, 6.67 ratio, and the S/N is F699489. I think the ring and pinion are missing some teeth. It won't move, but if you roll the thing a little it will move until it must hit the missing teeth then it will stop. The rest of the driveline moves, so I know it is in the differential. The housing looks like a Timken style. It splits in the middle into two pieces. I would like to find another rear like this or just another ring and pinion. Need to know what year it is and what to ask for before I put an ad in the classifieds. If anyone knows where I could look for axle parts for this axle I would appreciate the info. Used is fine, too. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I should be able to get some kind of pics next week. I didn't call anyone for parts until I knew what to ask for. Would they be able to help me ID it?

This rear axle has been put together using Ford Parts, but there's NO combination that matches the description in the parts catalog.

There's only one bolt pattern (8 lug; 6.50 bolt circle) and brake shoe diameter (12 x 1 3/4") that match: 1948/52 F2/F3. These truck models came with (as an option) the Timken Model 51524 axle.

1948/52 with a Timken 51524: The R&P is 4.11-1 or 4.857-1.

1948/52 F4/F5 / Timken Model 53566 / R&P = 6.666-1 = 01T-4203-A / The axle pattern and brakes don't match the criteria: 5 lug; 8 inch bolt pattern / 15" brakes with shoes that are 4.50 inches wide.

You can try joblotauto.com or greensalescompany.com / but what you're dealing with is a made up combo.

Thanks NumberDummy. I am thinking this axle is about 48 or 49. Would I be able to look for parts for 48-52 axles then? Sounds like they might interchange.

The problem I'm having is:

According to the 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, the Timken 51524 axle did not come with a 6.666-1 R&P.

Timken 51524: Only 4.11-1 or 4.857-1 ratios are shown.

Timken 51524: 1948/52 F2/F3. This axle wasn't used after 1952.

So...the question is...what make of truck used a Timken 51524 axle with a 6.666-1 rear axle ratio?

Will the Timken Model 53566 rear axle (used in F4/F5's) with its 6.666-1 R&P fit a Timken 51524 rear axle?

I dunno, but maybe joblotauto.com can help you.

Thanks. I emailed Job Lot Auto. We will see what they have to say about it. Does anyone know where has used parts for these old trucks? It woould be great if I could get another axle like the one that is in it. I will put a want ad in the classifieds now that I know what years to ask for.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone on here has the R&P you need, a lot of guys swap out the older timken axles in favor of the 72 and earlier dana 60's. Unfortunately I've already scrapped the timken out of my 52 F-3 or else I'd send you parts.
