Well fellas, she's done. Engine threw a rod this weekend.

No joke. I was headed home from Smokin, about 3 hours into the trip, Mike was following me and all of a sudden...boom! A huge cloud of oil smoke was pouring out from behind the truck. It ran for a few seconds then shut off. Pulled off the road and looked around. Oil was everyhwere, coolant res was empty. Finallly found the holes in the block and dents in the oil pan.

Getting home was an adventure to say the least. I'll let Mike give a little more info about the tow from Nashville to his area, but the trailer that came to get me from Mike's to my house was a bit too small for the truck so I had to drive 400+ miles home at a max speed of 45 MPH. Any more than that and the trailer would start to sway badly. We almost lost it at one point going through St. Louis in a bumpy, off camber, downhill curve, but recovered, dried our pants and continued on. I left Mike's at about midnight last night and finally unloaded the truck at about 10:15 this morning. We drove straight through. I'm exhausted now.

I have no idea what gave way. I'll find out hopefully by this weekend if I get a chance to pull the motor and take it apart. I should have been in the safe range for the rods since I dynoed 435 HP the day before. Who knows, maybe the truck really had PMR's. Maybe a piston cracked and let go at the wristpin. It's all speculation at this point unitl I can get into it more.

I'm doing some checking on what my next plan of action is, but a few of the guys who were at Smokin this weekend know what my plan is.

I know you're all wanting to see them, so here's the pics for now. Click to get the webshots gallery. I'll post up more as I get into the engine.

Ahhhhhh chit! I can't beleive it! Thats more than a bummer. Damn, I feel for ya. Was just reading the threads wondering what you made and now this??? Man, gives me real confidence for my build...parts have already been purchased. I sure as hell hope you don't have PMR's in that 2000 or I may also. :eek:WOW, can't wait to hear what the problem was...

Whats up with only 435hp anyway? BD's BO and fuel and only that? Please....

Any parts for sale???:-X04

I feel for you brother, I was wondering when you were going to let the cat out of the bag.

Tenn01PSD350 04-14-2008 09:23 PM

Yes, I wanted to puke myself because I had the best seat in the house for the view. That has about ruined a perfect weekend/trip for me. Jeremy will get it sorted out. I was just waiting for him to post it up.

Ponyboychris 04-14-2008 09:23 PM

The van turbo simply didn't have enough air. The 100 and 140 tunes put down nearly identical numbers.

my79f 04-14-2008 09:35 PM

JT from your last comment i take it the turbo might be disappearing from your truck. would you be interested in selling it to me?

That_Guy 04-14-2008 09:36 PM
