Harmonic Balancer questions
 

I need to replace my harmonic balancer on an '83 Ford Bronco with a 351w and duraspark3 ignition system.

The old one is part # e1te c3a. e=80's 1=1 t=truck e=engine part

The one I pulled off an '82 ltd is part # e2te d3a.

The weight on the two seem different. I've read that they should all be the same weight. Does anyone know what the c3a and d3a stand for or anyother way to find out if these match.

Are you sure the 82 LTD was a 351W and not a 302? I don't remember when thay changed the weights and which way they went on the 302's. I'll bet Torque King does though, might want to get up with him.

The weight of the balancers may be different but it is the imbalance weight that is important. The 351W uses a 28 oz as did the 302 through 76 I believe. The trucks sometimes had a wider balancer which made it heavier but also had more surface area on the rubber to provide better damping. For a fast reving motor you would want to the lighter/thinner balancer so the angular inertia would be less. For a torque motor the thicker balancer is better becuase it has more inertia.

Thanks for all the help. I actually only needed to replace the plate on the rear of the damper. After playing with it for a while I fund this was a seperate piece. It runs much better know that it's firing on all 8 cylinders instead of only six. Thanks again for the help.

For the record, the 52 oz imbablance started in 1981, on 302's only. I like that comment about angular inertia, now we're talkin'! TK
