Is this bad juice?
 

I have run about 40 gallons through my truck so far mixing it 50 percent with #2. My truck seems to actually run better with it. It is supposed to be B80 homebrew. I was wondering if it is low grade BD or does it look ok? Also, look at my other post, "Thinning out Bio Diesel". Thanks

that looks like non taxed off highway diesel

i don't know if its just me but i think its kind of hard to tell the quality of bio over the internet. when you look at it in the light does it look as clear as photos that Fabman posted? it might be good bio but just be a little darker because its made from WVO. i always sketch a little when i get bio from a new source and am sure to pump a little in a clear water bottle and "check it" before it gets in my truck.

so is it bad that its dark? I have had a sample jar setting for a week now and there is no water or other stuff seperating in it. Does the color of the fuel matter that much as long as it was processed correctly? Thanks

so, does the color really matter?

Color can vary according to the base oil used. In my first pic I posted, that Biodiesel was made from beef tallow, and is almost water clear. The next picture is the color of my "normal" biodiesel made from WVO. I've never had really dark bio in any of my batches. All my batches seem to be a light golden color, but very "clear" I can put a newspaper behind the container and read the print easily. There should be NO cloudiness, or opaqueness, or any sign of suspended particles.


I collect samples on a regular basis, and have never seen any precipitates in the bottom of the jars, even from 4 years ago..............

so color is mainly based upon the color of the oil going into the processor? There is no cloudines, suspended particles, so I guess its fine? Thanks for all the help.

I'm with jasiebol, looks like the 20% might just be dyed off road (non-taxed) diesel.

I hope you dont get pulled over and have you tanks dipped! That stuff looks a lot like #2 off road diesel! Their "tester" is basically just a plastic or glass tube dipped into the tanks, and they look at the color of the fuel.

It is NOT off road fuel. It is biodiesel made by ME. Our off road fuel here in Oregon is all dyed RED.

i agree it looks like the 20% is died offroad fuel, i wouldent run in it fear of getting my tanks diped

what does it mean when your biodiesel is cloudy? and when you get used oil hasnt it oxodize a little.
