What's up with the odd aerostar tire size?

I was talking to the guy that inspected my van today and he said I had dry rotted tires. He then tried to sell me some of his tires but he said he didn't have any in my size and that they were a sort of outdated/oddball size. 215/75-14 was the size I believe and apparently this is an outmoded size. I guess 14 inch rims have mostly gone by the wayside in recent years. Anyway, I'm sure you guys already know this, so my question is are there any good tires for the aerostar or have many of you upgraded to 15 inch wheels and whatever wheels? Thanks...

Quite a few tires made that will fit....

You could go with the 215/70/14 they are about .85 in smaller dia. otherwise the same
Speedo will be 2 mph off.

Input both tires...

if you plan on keeping it, get 5 7"x15"x114.5mm 5 bolt Ford rims off Ranger/Explorer etc at your local junke auto parts emporium or new if cash is no object.
then go with 225/70/15 radial tires
the 15" rim will fit under the EXT as spare. and 15" are far easier to find on a trip in the outback traveling

toss the skiny spare, it's rotted and a road kill waiting to happen

Thanks everyone, I was thinking about the 70 series tires but would like to keep my speedo as accurate as possible. The 15" rim sounds like the best option, I'll probably use that calculator to find a 15" tire that's the same height as the original. Thanks again...

I just got new rubber on my Aero this week. I used P205/75R14

Back in '86 14" tires were the norm on most vehicles, and sense there were only minor changes to the Aero throughout those years, including the rims.

Like what has been mentioned, if you are on a tight budget, I would recomend going with to the junk yard and picking up a set of Ranger/Explorer/Bronco II rims and putting new rubber on those. I picked up a set of Explorer Slicer Rim's and put 215/65-R15's on and love them. Gives the Aero a Trucklike look and only cost me $160 bones for the rims.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

You could go the Mazda pickup route. They have a nicer different mag selection and you do not have that big ugly center cap to worry about.

90s-present B2000 (I think that is what it is called.) The one that is the same size as the Ranger, um, yea, well, it is a Ranger with different body clading. The door jam says built by FMC for Mazda, and almost everything in it is transplanted from the Ranger, except for decor.

Would you know what size those would be.?

There are different sizes availible from the mazda line, your choices: 14" 15" 16" 17" The bolt pattern is the same as the Ranger/Aero/BII/Explorer.

EDIT: And you can also choose from Mustang/Crown Vic/Grand Marque/Towncar and also Jeep Cherokee/G Cherokee. All have the same bolt patern.
