86 460 specs

I have an 86 460 carbed and I wanted to know what specs are available. Specifically what the RPM power range is. I have a C6 auto tranny behind it and the engine idles at 1000, and the C6 I believe has three (3) gears in it so at the top gear around 65MPH it runs around 5000 rpm. Is this normal? This is my first big block ford that's why I'm asking. Biggest prior to this was a 302 and that motor would be screaming.

Thanks

I have a 86 460 with a c-6 also. I am running 35" tires with I think 373 gears and I am doing maybe 3000 at 65 probably a little less actually. 5000 is screaming that doesnt sound right to me.

I picked up a tack from a junk yard so It's quite possible that it does not work quite right. I thought it was a little off myself. The engine is not screaming though.

You need to get the rear end ratio. My 1984 460, C6 with 4.10 rear end runs at about 3400 at 65 mph but I never run faster than 58 mph because gas mileage pretty much dies after that.
