trailer lights

I know some of you have installed a trailer light plug and was wondering if you have to put a fuse in the fuse box. I read somewhere where you had to put one in the #1 position. I looked in my fuse box last night and the #1 is open. I doesn't even wires ruinning to it for a fuse. Also does anyone know where I can get a diagram for the fuse box that tells what each fuse controls? My doesn't have one. I know it's usually on the back of the cover but mine is not.

I wired mine the old fashioned way, direct from the tailights. You will need two diodes available at any parts store to allow the seperate stop, turn, tail lights on the Escape to power the combined stop, turn, tail lights on the trailer. It takes a little time, solder all of your connections, use "heat shrink" tubing on the joints not tape and you will not have a problem. Mine has been in place for two years and works well. Good luck.
