2007 f150 towing capacity ..HELP
 

Hey guys, I have a 2007 f150 4x4 supercab with the 5.4 ffv v8 and a 3.55 rear axle.
I am looking at a new travel trailer that weighs 7200 pounds empty. The max I can tow (according to Ford) is 8300#. Do you think my truck can tow this item safely and without voiding the warranty.

I do have a truck cap on it and plan on bringing approx 600 pounds (average) with me when I go camping. I think I am near the weight max when you include all items including family (as we plan on attending the camping trip with my truck and camper)....

Does anyone know what the hitch capacity is for this vehicle or does it depend on the type of receiver I have...(3 inch)?

the hitch capacity is usually stamped or on a sticker on the hitch if it is an aftermarket hitch, if it is oem, whatever is listed in the owners manual is the hitch capcity for the truck. if your truck is rated to tow 8300 lbs thats usually what it is. i think you'll be fine towing the rig and with all your passengers and gear. another thing to consider is the distance your planning to travel because you will be loaded up close to the max. if your only goin on a 3 hour trip compared to hauling it all for 1100 miles, then it could be streatching it

Our new trailer weighs 6700 pounds dry and full with Fresh/grey/black/propane tanks ......completely full it comes in at 8100 lbs(not that you drive with all your tanks full). The hitch weight is 942 lbs. I live in BC and hauled it to Alberta just last week on a very windy day, yes it pulled it a highway speed 110-115kms/hour. Yes you could feel it back there, but I never felt unsafe and this is the biggest thing I have ever towed in my life. The Edge programmer said my tranny temps rose 9 degrees only, after several km's establishing a baseline temp it liked to run at. I am very happy with my truck. In saying that, At most I am going to haul it 300-400 kms, and if I was going to pull it farther, I will upgrade to a F250 next time. CHeck out the picture ....it never even squatted the rear, equalizer hitches work wonders.

Check out RV.net towing forum...I'd recommend getting a little lighter trailer. I got a 5800 GVWR trailer for a 6100 # rated vfehicle and later went up to my F150 5.4 with 3.73 gears. So it would tow easy. Your truck can do it, but I would always wonder what's going to wear out or break if you use it at max.

For what it's worth...

If you have the factory towing package, which it sounds like you do, you have a Class IV hitch. The hitch is rated for much more than your truck is...I believe the hitch itself is good for over 10,000 lbs, so you won't break anything there.

Since you have an '07, you have the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. IF anything goes from the strain, it will likely be in the powertrain(engine, tranny, axle, driveshaft, etc.), so you're covered in that area.

Ford will NOT cover damage under warranty if they find out you were going over your rated capacity...but for this kind of tow you shouldn't have much trouble there.

I've had my '07 Screw(5.4, 3.73s) up to about a 7000 lb trailer, and it handled it great. The big test comes in the next couple months when I pull my fully loaded 24 foot car hauler on a 500 mile trip. 8500 lbs loaded...and i'm anxious to see how she does!

I'm looking to purchase a 27 foot 6200lb (dry weight) travel trailer and was kinda worried at first, but after discussing with the dealer about the EQ hitch and sway bars, and reading posts here I feel much better.

My truck is a 06 Super Crew 4x4 and I believe is rated at 9,200lbs, so I should be okay even with the tanks all full and 800lbs of gear. Any thoughts???--Experiences??? Thanks

I tow a 26 foot, 6,500 lb.(actual) 7,700 lb GVWR travel trailer with my 06 F150 XLT 4x4 Super Crew and it does well. Expect 9-10 MPG towing. Towing with full tanks isn't a good thing unless you have to for dry camping. All that liquid sloshing around can greatly increase your trailer sway.

my king ranch is rated at 8100 i believe with the 5.4 and 3.55 gears and those 20 inch rims. however i don't ever foreseen myself to be towing more than 6000lbs. i did once tow my 3900lbs 73 mustang 460 motor on a u-haul full trailer (2000 supposedly) and the car did have some stuff in it. so thats the heaviest load i ever see myself towing.

i am going to be towing a 20x10 u-haul trailer with about 2000lbs of furniture in it soon. so a total of mayb 3500lbs. i am expecting my f150 to be towing that weight with ease.
