Boss 302? As in the '69-70 4 bolt mains, Cleveland type heads?

Or 302 HO?

Or the "new" Boss block in 302 config?

Torque and hp cheap are mostly available to those with wheezer 302s. 302's that came from the factory in Boss 302 trim, or even HO trim, already have the easy stuff done.

So what exactly do you have? 2bbl, 4bbl, variable venturi, efi?

it has 4 bolt mains, 8 bolt valve covers, screw in freeze plugs and EFI. the guy that had the truck before me used to run empty semi trailers back across state lines with it. when i got it i just thought it was a regular 302 but it has all the carachteristics that people describe as the mustang boss. from what im guessing it is a 302 boss. im not sure what it has for heads on it either

Can you find some numbers on the castings? EFI would be an addon.

This would be an odd engine swap... A Boss 302 is pretty soft on the low end. You got any power below 3000 rpms?

under 2500 rpm i get almost nothing but between 2500 and 5000 rpm the truck flies. i also think its that way because i have 4.63 gears in my rear end. if i get on it it will do 5mph-60mph in about 7 sec(i cant start from zero otherwise i lite my tires up like the fourth of july)

thx for the link tomorrow ill look and try to find some numbers on my block

4x2mudder 03-08-2008 11:04 AM

i got the numbers off of my block and it says its not a 302 boss, but then why would it have 4 bolt mains? could you think it is a 302 HO?

85e150 03-08-2008 04:55 PM

OK, how do we know it has 4 bolt mains? I do not think the Boss 302 has cross bolted mains like the 427, but rather 4 bolt caps. You can see the cross bolts, you can't see the caps unless you pull the pan.

What does it say it is?

Post the numbers, Numberdummy may pass by and interpret.

the numbers are D0AE-4658 B, also i cant read the last number or letter thx

You have to define what this means to you. It sounds like this motor already makes lots of HP, but the reality is a small V8 like this will never make big TQ at low rpms(under 3000rpm), so if that's what you want you'll have to boost displacement with a stroker or simply swap in some displacement.

ive thought about getting my hands on a 460 or a 351, and selling this motor. which at this point i dont know what it is. if i get a 460 or a 351 then ill be able to pull a real trailer. ive thought about making it a stroker too. i was thinking something more like maybe a performance cam, or dual quads instead of EFI

if it is a true real Boss 302, then sell it. they are worth pretty decent money in original condition. then take the money and build a real nice 351 or 460 stroker package with all the cash.

DO NOT modify the Boss 302. worth good money in stock form.

there is no way it would be a boss 302. there are no efi intakes for the boss 302 engine.
