Looks like I got Bongared

Well you remember back September and October when I was whining and crying about the job off the coast of Nigeria on Bonga?? Well they screwed up the other compressor and unfortunaely it has come back with a vengance. I have to replace or overhaul the other unit and if it was a real bad boy this could have sent crap down to the one I already rebuilt. And yep stupid me, I already came back.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-03-2008 08:42 PM

Snowbunny 03-03-2008 10:06 PM

Dang, Eric!! You be safe over there!! Those crazy locals almost drove you nuts the first time!! Be well, and keep in touch!!

Eric C. 03-03-2008 10:27 PM

As the song goes "I'm already there". Just finished my second week floating in the middle of nowhere. I's not that bad until you've been here for a month because there is just nowhere to go. The money is good at 12 hours a day at 7 days a week with a 40% premium and an additional 5 after 30 days. I was supposed to be in China the middle of the month to do a couple of compressors. Guess not though. They way they do things here will get to you that's for sure.I got 6 days of waiting to work where they pulled my permits because someone else goofed so they pushed gas into the unit and then they have to repurge. What fun.

lostmybeer 03-03-2008 10:35 PM

I think you need to do more than purging if you have gas.

Snowbunny 03-03-2008 10:49 PM

Ha! Ha!! Ha!!! Tom, that's just way too funny!!!

Eric C. 03-03-2008 11:01 PM

Yea, you real funny man. It would really help if these clowns realy understood english here and were a little more than a bunch of trained monkeys. Takes months to teach them how to operate a piece of equipment and then if any thing changes from the "NORM" they get lost. The attitude is run it the way they want till it breaks, do no maintenance, take 2 months to get someone (me) to come and fix it, and say the equipment is the problem not that they fail to follow directions. Every time we ask them what the system is doing we get this blank stare. I asked if they drain the compressors on shut down and they assured me they do, I went and drained the case and got over a gallon of water and what looks like dirty diesel from cleaning parts out of it. And the wonder why the thing is rusted up and won't turn.

It is like some of the farm hands we have had. Fun fun fun

Eric C. 03-04-2008 02:40 AM

I know. Some of the supposed "MILLWRIGHTS" I've had are about as smart as a bag of rocks. I can tell you some horror stories about third world and developing countries.

Canadiansailor 03-04-2008 07:10 AM

Man, I don Not envy you. That paycheque better be worth all the hassel from the bloody trained monkeys

Eric C. 03-04-2008 08:26 AM

$38.00 an hour for the first 8 then 1 1/2 for the next 4, 1 1/2 for 12 each on Saturday and Sunday and 40% for being here plus 5% after 30 days. The contract reads they get billed for 12 hours a day for 7 days a week PERIOD.

Canadiansailor 03-04-2008 09:54 AM

Atleast you'll have some money for the toys. Maybe replace the one killed by a tree. LOL

Eric C. 03-04-2008 10:26 AM

That's the 87, but then maybe I'll start working on the 88 and do something with it. I need anice little local thing and other than the big hairy dent in the left rear it's a good runner and the frame is straight.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-05-2008 09:56 PM

Eric, do you work alone? need a monkey that is trained and more trainable?I have my own tools....
