Time for biodiesel
The gas station nearest my house says 3.99! I'm just fed up with paying 400+ a month for fuel. ITS TIME FOR BIODIESEL. Thats my conclusion. So Ive been doing some limited research and I really like the site and contents of the website dieselsecret.com. Anyone here try it? It sounds almost too good to be true. I think the hard part is harvesting the used cooking oil from local restaraunts. For those using biodiesel a few questions:
How many restaraunts does it take to keep you fueled up? What kind of restaraunts do you like to approach about their oil? Any input regarding the subject in general would be appreciated. I imagine others on these forums are considering it too. Thanks. |
Just FYI...in my opinion, there is a difference between biodiesel and WVO (waste vegetable oil). You can find Bio at a few stations but the price isn't any better in most cases....but your truck will love it. As for WVO...I haven't investigated much due to the price to get the truck ready for it and the hassle of chasing the oil around.

i just got done with a project in school based on biodiesel. It seems like a real good idea but it cost so much more to buy at a fuel stop that it really don't seem worth it. Following my research i would just buy me a little home plant (bout 1500 bucks) and around here not many folks are doing it soo its easy to come up on hundreds of gallons of oil. Also you may wanna pitch a plan to the restraunt owner convincing him of giving it to you. Bring up things like he would'nt have to PAY someone to get it off his hands! i dont figure you would have to much trouble. best luck

It sounds like you are talking about WVO (Waste Veggie Oil) not Bio Diesel. The difference is BioDiesel is a fuel processed from types of oils you can just pour in your truck. WVO requires a separate tank, lines, a heater (either electric or coolant), pump, controls, etc. There is a separate forum here on the site that addresses a lot of questions you might have. The deal im talking about is biodiesel. The processor stands bout 8 or 9 foot tall and it involves mixing and filtering. WVO is just put in a tank and heated to running temp if im not mistakin. Bio goes straight into the tank just like good ol #2 just a little effort and time involved.

Actually, WVO can be and is being used to produce Biodiesel. The difference, is the type of waste oil you are collecting (are they using canola, lard, peanut, coconut to cook with?), and the impurities that you have to filter out, and for which winds up requiring more chemicals during the titration process.
All-in-all, Biodiesel is good for us all...including our Strokes! BTW, this thread should be moved over to the Bio and Alternative Fuels forum...where these items are discussed at length. Good luck with whichever you try. I constantly run a B20 to B40 blend...and my Stroke thanx me. |

But either way you go (again, to the OP), I wish you luck. I just filled up with B100 (made with soy), and the truck runs okay on it. Not as fast as dino, but if you cut it down with half dino, it's pretty good. We had a cold snap after a really nice run of days so I had to put a shot of winter DieselKleen and topped off with dino. I'm sitting at a B50 mix right now, and no problems with temps in the upper 20s/low 30s. So BD WILL gel a lot sooner than dino (or a lower mix like B20). The sign on the B100 pump said temps below 40 will cause the fuel to gel, so keep that in mind... |

Mixing veggie and diesel is fine, I prefer it in non electronic engines. However, don't waste your money on Diesel Secret, its just some crap to get your money. They say you need their "SECRET INGREDIENT" . Bull butter, I just mix 20-30 percent diesel with mine and run it, even on the coldest Arkansas Days. Most people say it won't work, whatever, Most people say it will ruin your engine. I have been running it for a year and a half and have saved more than enough money to buy an engine. But it still seems to be in perfect shape. That is running WVO.
