I have a 1979 460 performer rpm intake and performer rpm cam 2000 - 6000rpm with a 750 holley double pumper and i was wondering what type of torque convertor i should use?

Torque converters like cam selection is best left to the experts if your looking for the ideal setup.
They will also want to know your gear ratio, weight, intended usage. You also did not mention if your running headers, complete dual exhaust ( to take advantage of your additional breathing ability). A general guidline would be to run at least a eleven inch converter to give you around 2200 stall speed. A ten inch will give you close to 3000 stall is still "streetable" but you will probably not be able to hook-up in first gear at full throttle without running slicks. One other thing to think about is most of the inexpensive converters ($200-$300) are built to handle around 500 ft. lbs. torque maximum...and your engine can produce over that especially if you ever go to nitrous. I know first hand how these H.P. projects can escalate so think ahead and spend accordingly.

I am running dana 70 axles front and rear with detroit lockers and 5.13 gears.The headers are L&L headers. Do you have any names of the more expesive stall converters?

Deen, In a previous post you mentioned A-460 heads. Are these aftermarket or stock castings? Also, I am building a hi compression 429 with the new stealth? manifold. Everything will be race on both motors(forged pistons, polished beams, etc). Are these heads really that potent? Where are they found? Thanks for the insight.

The A460 heads can be purchased used...look for adds in "National Dragster" (the official NHRA weekly newspaper). If your looking for new you can buy the C460 heads which have had some design changes. The Ford SVO part # is M-6049-C460. The heads sell bare for around $800. each. Expect to be in them around $2,500 fully assembled. If you want to make over 600 H.P. you need those heads. You might also check with "Aldridge Automotive" out of Portland, Or. (503)284-8484 He is an expert in Ford high H.P. engines and has even done some design/engineering for Ford SVO...asked for Denny Aldridge.
