Folks With the Carter P4070 "lift pump"
 

So who all is running it, for how long, and any issues? I went onto summitracing tonight, and it says its for a gas application, while the carter GP4389 is for diesel applications. I definetely want longevity, its a DD that gets 30-40k a year on it. Both seem to have the same info, just the GP4389 is techically for diesel use, and approximately $40 more. They both have the same picture aswell. So, whose got info?

I have been running it since i put my fuel system in, back in july of 06. Still pumping like it should.

I went with the 4594 instead of the 4070 because it had a slightly higher output pressure (couple of psi) and I couldn't get anyone to tell me that it would be a problem - exact same price, too.

Anyway, I've been running it since late summer and haven't had a single problem with it. I've got about 7-9K miles on it at this point.

Had mine too about the same amount of time as Kris. No problems. A little noisy even after adding vinyl gasket behind the mounting bracket.

what exactly is the benefit of running the lift pump? conjunction with teh stock pump and pre pump filter to reduce strain on factory pump?

You got it, Nic. Really shouldn't be necessary if you have a healthy stock pump.

I chose to go that route myself because I over-engineer everything and had no data on the stocker (The Carter pump gave me some "suspenders" to go with my "belt"). Once I get my in-cab fuel pressure gauge hooked up, I'll get a better picture.

No problems here. I installed the Carter 4070 lift pump and a Carter 74221 high pressure pump. I shimmed the FPR to 68psi. Little noise but that lets you know it's working. I just installed a Fuel Pressure gauge in the cab, solid 68 psi all the time.

I have about 40k miles on the set up so far. I have the Racor 500 FG turbine filter between the tank and the 4070.

Just to make sure all was working, I took the hose off the intake side of the HP pump and the little 4070 sends out a nice solid stream of fuel.

Thanks for all the insight. Im glad to hear all the good about the 4070, Im just wondering if its worth the extra 40 for the GP4389, with a diesel rating, marine too I think it was. Glad to see some miles on the 4070 though, Id like it to last 50K+

Almost 2 years and around 80,000 miles on the 4070, no problems. You will hear it , though.

It took me about 3-4 months to get to the point where I don't really notice mine any more... until I stop and listen for it.

I've got about 14k on mine. No issues. You really do get use to the noise it makes. Very apparent when you first install, now I don't notice it unless I listen for it. I bought a second one to feed my aux tank to primary tank. Just need to hook it all up. TIME TIME TIME.

Very true. Forgot to mention that last night Mike. The 4070 is a lot louder than the stock pump.

On Dave's (1996pwrstrk) truck we used a Holley red pump. It's quieter and has a higher output than the Carter.....but is also a good bit more expensive.

what about the fass pump,is it worth the extra $$$$ or will the carter do the same for cheaper??
