I have a 1964 F-250, 2WD, and I'm looking to build it up for racing. I'm looking at a 460 with a stroker kit, stroked out to a 514. It's a block, rods, pistons and rings all put together. What I'm wondering is: how hard would it be to build this engine up to between 900-1100 HP with 1000-1500 F/p of torque and an operating range of somewhere around 2500-7000 RPM's?
And where can I get good racing parts for this engine?

I dont mean to be critical, but if you are going to go racing, a 64 F250 is probably not the best body choice. These trucks cut through the air like a brick wall! As for the motor, its very possible if you have around $20,000 to put into it.

Getting 700-800 HP out of the big block Ford is fairly easy with a set of TFS or Ford Motor Sports heads, a 276-280 deg. roller cam @.050, and at least 11.5 compression ratio. Your power range will be between 4,500-7,800 RPM. To make over 900 HP you will need to have a sizable bank account and would probably be better off to set up the engine a little less radical but run a blower. One thing to watch out for in stroker kit engines is what crank they use. The older "2Y" cranks when stroked or "off set ground" leave very little metal in place and should only be used for street driving. Get a later model "3Y" crank as a minimum or step up and buy a forged crank for anything over 700 HP. Deen

Ford Motorsports catalog now has a 514 cid crate engine, not sure of all the specs and price. Putting a 900-1100 HP racing engine in an F-250 staight axle truck is NOT a good idea!! You might be able to put an aftermarket IFS front end under it to handle the load of a big block under drag racing conditions. I believe the 514 FMS engine is rated at 600 HP normally asperated(carb. only) with nitrous you can get another 250HP or so. A blower with twin carbs or fuel injection you might reach the 1000-1100 HP mark. I just installed a 400-425 HP 351w in my '69 F-100 2wd. I am running the stock twin I beam suspention under my truck with new front springs and coil over shocks. I plan on running it at a couple of local 1/8th mile tracks next season. I am concerned about the twin I-beams under racing conditions my self. I'm going to race it for fun and not for full blown competition. If you are wanting to get seriously in to drag racing you might want to get something a little more light weight and aerodinamic like a Mustang,T-bird or even an old Maverick. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking old ford trucks but they are not good for serious drag racing.

Well I'm not going for full blown competition at all. For the most part I plan on driving to shows and back home, then once in a while I'll take a trip down to the 'vard and show all these Riceboys wassup!

If you are planing on driving it on the street and to shows and what have you, you may want to go with something a little bit milder than a 900-1100 Hp engine!! The basic 514 SVO crete engine will be a plenty of motor to impress whoever you want, evey chew up some C#%*Y's in the process!! You may want to think about a 351w, SVO have one in there catalog Rated at 375HP For about 6 grand, the 514 Is around $8,500-$9000 bucks I think. Like said in my last post,I just built a 351w with 400-425HP with a c6 tranny and 4.11 gears in a nine inch and put it in my '69 F-100 swb.It carries the heavy truck down the road in a hurry!!
