I just checked out the FAQ's and the linky for decoding my vin plate(1979 F250) is not found. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

This is all from Dennis' "Ford truck info" page

Paint codes

Axle codes
http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i7...9AxleCodes.jpg

Interior trim
http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i7...9TrimCodes.jpg

The X refers to something in the steering or front suspension. Maybe sway bars?

CretePumper 02-10-2008 08:15 AM

the X is front axle code

example : 38J = Rear axle ratio 3.73 and a capacity of 5.3 m- Dana 60 the J= 5M front axle with power steering

- Source ...... Dennis Carpenter reproductions

Wow, now I am really confused. I just checked the paint codes and 7U comes up emerald!?!? My truck has the original paint and it's dark brown metallic w/light biege center. Where would be the best place to look for the build sheet in this thing? All the vins match. Does it being made 01/79 have anything to do with it? Just 'reaching' for ideas. Thanks

X means Tilt (adjustable) column for 1979

Push the T/S arm toward the dash and the steering wheel should tilt

7 U is two tone paint

7 = Desert Gold Poly

U = Sand Poly

The 7U that you read is the FACTORY Colour "Mixing code" for emerald.

I thought A was for tilt steering

Mil1ion 02-10-2008 01:31 PM
