OBD II scanner

Will an obd II scanner work with a diesel?

tjbeggs 02-03-2008 07:09 PM

Some will some won't. What brand and model?

Most scanners won't work with the diesel. If you are looking on E-Bay most of those will not either. We have a member that got a great deal on a scanner just to find out it won't work.

If you are really big about getting a scanner prepare tp pay at least $400,00+
for one. I bought the AutoEnginuity with the entire Ford Bundle for just under $400.00. I still have not mastered the entire unit to it's potential.

You really need to talk to the seller and find out what it will do and what it won't do. I would never buy from an individual unless I was totally familiar with that unit. That's my $0.02.

PS
If you think that is high price out the Snap On unit. :-hair:eek::-X13

I got one at wal-mart fo work on my mamaw's car. Just wondering if it would work.

Give it a shot. if it doesn't work it won't hurt anything it will jsut give a communication error.

hey im working on a fleet of f-550's ranging from 99 all the way up to 2008. we have not yet purchsed a scanner and we are starting to realize that we need one to run diagnostics on the fuel injectors... is there any unit out there that is pretty simple to use but can identify faulty injectors and on what cylinder?

There's always the OBD 2 Software that loads into your laptop and run it through the port and the puter. Last I checked $200 for software $40 for cable. The military started using it back in the Y2K and the did a report available online as to how well it worked. The report is public info under some acronym I forget "meeps" or "waps" or something you can probablly google it.

You might want to think about getting a Edge Evolution if you ever need a code reader for your truck. I got one on flebay for about 300 and it is also a programmer so you get two for the price of one.
