ngs and oil pressure
playing with th ngs today and i think my pump is dying a slow death. at 1\4 throttle i am maxing my ipr to keep up with icp levels, my peak icp reading is only 2500 psi and under full throttle it drops slowly, this is with a superchip only, no other c00nhunterjoe mods in place. tomarrow i hope to install my 14.7 and my 22k to see if it drops even faster. i suspect it will since it falls on its face with the 22k.
more to come........ |
O.K. so what's it going to be, Stealth, Pulse, ????????
|
I want to get the Pulse bad. However, I don't like the fact of how new the product is to be spending that kind of money. Anyways, in my next upgrade debacle I think I'm getting the Turbo first.
Interesting news Joe. Makes me want to go out and see what mine is doing. |
i dont have 1500 bucks for a performance pump. the truck itself runs great even with my 14.7k mod in place, its only when i install the 22k that i have issues but i just had a feeling the pump is on its last leg so i figured its time to check it out.
as for which pump i want....i want the new one that you dont have to relocate the fuel filter for our trucks. i dont recall which one it is but its one of the 2 newest ones coming out that is a literal direct bolt on to all 7.3's with no mods to your truck. 1500 smackers though..ouch. if i can get away with a 17* pump i robably will when the time comes as long as it can handle bigger injectors without a problem but for the tme being i am letting it ride |
The pulse is the direct bolt in without removing the fuel filter.
Joe what is your IPR DC? If its really high(over 50%) it could still be an IPR problem or a leak poppet valve or o-rings. |
ipr duty cycle maxs to 34% at 1\4 throttle or wide open. they should only go over that on hard starts. 50% indicates a high pressure leak.
my injector o-rings are new, my ipr is new, pump is not.....236k |
sorry, 54 percent is max, lol but anyway i will instal some resistors and see if i cant get my dc higher
|
Yeah I knew 34 wasn't a good number! I was seaching my Ford CD for the info. I hate that thing!! Mitchel On-Demand Rocks!!
|
34 is my max though, it doesnt go over 34% whether its 1\4 throttle under load or full throttle
|
If your IPR isn't going higher than your PCM doesn't want any more pressure. Not your pumps fault.

Its programming Bill |
got more numbers tonight, installed the 22k, the ipr adjusted to get the "desired" icp, held a max of "2500" psi and ipr duty cycle is 43% to accomplish this instead of 34% without the resistor. contrary to my theory the icp didnt drop off when the truck fell on its face, it held steady. so now i beleive i have a fuel pressure problem but had no time to investigate it tonight. i will have to get a gauge on it and drive it some more to see if my fuel pressure is dropping off withthe increased demands. a likely suspect for 236k on the origonal pump.
any other ideas? a recap on symptoms. with 22k resistor in icp my way the truck starts off incredible hard, black smoke bellowing hardcore, then truck just falls on its face and starts to miss, no more smoke to speak of, can hold it to the floor while missing, never gets worse stays consistant. as soon as you let off it runs fine, no recovery time to get power back. |
Could be fuel. A gauge will tell. Wonder what your ICP really is? if your reading is 2500 and the 22k makes the ICP look low your putting out some pretty good pressures. Wonder how much?
|
the 22k is good for around 450 psi on top of what the icp is reading.
my ipr duty cycle at idle jumps from 10-11% to 20-21% :-D |
Have you measured this with a gauge before?
