Tundra is one expensive truck
 

This goes back to the Four Wheeler Truck of the Year competition-

I was looking at the spec sheet at the end of the article which lists every truck's specs, options, price, etc.

This test had a new Dakota, a Ram 2500 Cummins quad cab, Ford F250 Supercab PSD FX4, Hummer H2 SUT, and Tundra CrewMax.

The Ford and Dodge both stickered for around $51K. Diesel, auto, etc. The Ford was pretty much optioned out, it had the longest list of options of anything in the competition (of course, that doesn't surprise me, with all the options Ford offers on the Super Dutys).

What shocked me- the Tundra stickered at $47K! I don't know what they come with standard, but base price for the CrewMax is shown as $41K. Only had about 6 options, the most expensive of which was a rear seat DVD entertainment system and a DVD nav system.

No wonder I don't see very many of those around.

Go check out what a loaded F150 stickers to. It's pretty high.

The sticker is less important than the out the door price. Discounts and incentatives are far less with Toyota. When I bought my truck, I could buy a stripped Toyota or a loaded XLT for about the same price. The Ford had a sticker $4,000 more than the Toyota but I could buy them for the same.

That is why, I would wait 3 years get a used one...Bugs worked out and way cheaper

I agree..I my self I like XL models..I hate the power windows in my Explorer..

As already stated, ALL the MSRP's on like equipped trucks are very close.

The "Limited" you are quoting is very close to the King Ranch or Harley from Ford as far as asking price.......rebates vary from a high of $3,000 for Toyota to I've seen $5,000 rebates from Ford. HOWEVER, Ford USUALLY excludes the Harley Davidson trim from the rebates!!!

The Toy SR5 is equal in price to the XLT

My SR5 4X4 Crewmax stickered at 37K and was purchased for 31K.....

As far as not seeing many around, Toy pretty much met their goal of selling 200,000 1/2 ton Tundras.......and while I put very liitle weight into equating sales numbers with who's best (if we did, then GM handily outsells Ford) I am always curious to how Ford and GM's truck sales actually break down.

In other words, out of the +- 700,000 Fords sold, how many were 150's, 250's 350's, 450's, 550's, 600's, 700's....etc.

My truck is an XL...The only power option I wish it had is power mirrors.

I also have XL. Maybe I'm used to a lot of standard equipment in my Mustang, but I expected at least cassette player (I only got AM/FM), power mirrors and power locks.

Power Mirrors and heated ones I think should be mandatory....:) Especially trucks pulling trailers

I meant that I don't see many CrewMax's.

I figured the regular cab and standard cab must be cheaper (I see a few of them).

Well, at any rate, $40-50K is sure more than I'd wanna pay for a truck, but I also don't want heated leather or DVD nav systems.

And thank god for that...:)

When I bought my truck, I compared apples to apples between the SR5 and XLT. Even though the MSRP was similar, the out the door price was very different. I keep vehicles a long time and the price difference is more than the vehicle will be worth when I sell it.

And that all depends on when you were shopping.....at intro, there were no rebates for the Tundra......and I don't recall the rebates for Ford in Feb. of '07. (Probably $3,000)

When I bought my Tundra, the rebates were the same at $3,000.

Later, Ford went as high as $5,000 while the Tundra stayed at 3K.

I can get the D plan for Fords (a small percentage under invoice) and had no problem getting invoice for the Tundra....even though I had to shop the East side of the country for it.
