Anyone know what kind of increase in hp and torque you can get on a stock 460 with headers? Everyone I've talked talked to says that they aren't worth it because they always melt plug wires and stuff.

A EFI460 build-up was done in Super Ford. They used Kenne Bell Tri-Y headers and gained 14 horsepower&22 lb.-ft. of torque.The Borla 4 into 1 headers I've been using on my EFI460 have worked well for me. I really noticed the difference when I got dual exhaust put on the truck. Headers do generate more heat than stock manifolds...just keep plug wires from resting on them,use looms to keep them out of harm's way, and melting wires shouldn't be a problem.Make sure you go with a set of stainless steel headers,as they will last longer. The only nagging problem using headers is the bolts sometimes need to be retightened,and sometimes gaskets need to be replaced(you'll hear a loud ticking sound...). To be safe,I keep a spare set of header gaskets in my garage. Headers are expensive, but in the long run, worth it.This is especially true if you plan more upgrades later. Hope this helps. Check out Gale Banks Engineering. 68±hp, 85±Lb Ft torque, lower under hood temperatures. I installed them last year on an '88 F-250 w/460, a noticeable difference when hauling my camper over the mountain passes in Washington. Expensive improvement, but excellent quality material, good guarantee, no gaskets needed, no retorquing in 20k miles, stainless steel, 5/8" flange, machined flat after welding. I would install heat shield material on anything the headers pass within 3" of such as starter, transmission pan, etc. Changed to MSD plug wires at the same time, no melting yet, with a couple two hour drives at 60-70mph and 100°F ambient temperature.....
