How do you add a tac to a diesel

Hi, Was just wondering if anybody ever added a tac to a 7.3 that never had one.How is it hooked up and/or do they make a kit with everything needed with instructions? I sure wish I had some vital instrumentation on my truck to monitor what's going on under the hood, even a boost presure gauge for my turbo would be nice. Thanks

what year truck do you have?

pretty sure the signal comes off a pink/white wire.

smokin stroke,Hi,
I have a '96 e450 turbo deisel van. I have to change the gp's soon and since I'll be in there I might be able to upgrade a few things. What wire harness are you talking about? Is there a sensor or something to count the revolutions allready on the engine?
A gasoline motor is easy but deisel I know nothing about where to connect it to.Will a regular tac work on it or is it a special type? Thanks and happy trails.

If your gauge cluster looks the same as the trucks from the same year, it is just a matter of finding a PSD cluster with a tac, and plugging it in. YOu will know if it is a PSD gauge cluster because the tac will have font saying "Turbo Diesel" and only goes up to 4k-5k rpm.

PM MadVan he has a van with a pickup cluster in it.

pretty sure you can replace just individual pieces of the cluster. i know guys have added just a speedo from the lightnings cause they go to 120. should be pretty easy to find one. i wanna say the wire goes into the pcm but it should be up there behind the cluster also. who knows the plug may even be there. i just know that because a guy told me a few years ago to get the signal for a dyno run( that i never did :( )

Your E-series 96 is the old style dash.
Below is Samanths's convert to an OEM F-series tach.
His was an IDI. Yours is a PSD so all you need to do is run the wire for the tach sig. It brakes out in the main harness to the left of the booster. Its tagged CTO. Its Pink with white trace. Run the wire to the tach input.

BTW--The tach on PSD is in HZ
My Convert was 97. New style dash cluster.

They sell tacs that are pretty acurate off the ALT. They have a clamp with a pickup coil on it. SOld thru Jegs, and Summit.

You also could just install an AIC.

The wires nessary are in the dash already.

your best off finding a 96 truck with a tach cluster, and just take the 2 side clusters and add them to yours, the harness is already in there.

wow, even though the vehicles are mostly identical, they didn't use the same wireing harness for the dash?

crazy.

That must have made the install fun.

now that sounds like a good idea, i hate guessing past 85

also, i have always loved that white background instrument cluster that the svt vehicles use.
