Yes it was posted a long time ago but I thought that Toyota had fixed it. There were post from yesterday stating the 2008's had the same problem.

I don't think they fixed it, I think they just give you a new tailgate if anything happens...They need to step it up and make a tailgate that will hold up...

Tim :-wink

I feel bad for a guy who owns a truck, and the tail gate is weak. my tail gate could hold 500 pounds, many times i relyed on the tail gate, for a extended load.

My self I do not think it is a good idea to rely on a tailgate for any extra support..I have seen so many fail Fords, Chevys and Dodges fail...Because of what ever negligence ...

But you have to use the tailgate to get to the bed. The tailgate needs to be strong enough to hold up what you are loading even though you don't use it once the load is in the bed. It's not reasonable to expect anyone to remove the tailgate to load the bed of the truck.

I know what your saying and, I find that it is cheaper in the long run to remove the tailgate before loading certain stuff...

While Tundra-bashing seems to be a sport here at FTE, what about the new Silverado/Sierra? That tailgate has no steel closeout at all on top, only a plastic cap. Also, I cut my finger on the unfinished, jagged steel on the underside. They may be pretty, but workmanship is slipping back to the 1980's. The '73-'87 GMs were quick-rusting rattle traps, while my '93 was perfect, body-wise.

But the Tundra is "furrin" while you are doing your country a favor by buying from the "Big 3".

From what I've been told......

If I need to remove my tailgate to load my truck, I need another truck.

Holy crap, I agree with something you have said and it was relatively easy to read.

Time to go play the lottery!

The Toyota owners were warned. Toyota slapped TRD on the side of your trucks for a reason.
