Beverly Hillbillies Truck sold on Barrett/Jackson
WOW----125,000 buckaroos and I don't mean confederate dollars either!! I came in to warm up and barrett/jackson has been on all day,when I spotted the B.H. truck and brings back my memory of meeting DONNA DOUGLAS and talking and posing with her. I could not believe that 99% of the kids at the show had no idea who she was. I was asked to sit and we talked for 1 1/2 hours and she was a great lady. 1 of my childhood crushes......They don't make shows like B.H. and Sandford and Son anymore-----good humor and still hiliarious!!! She was a hottie all right! Classy lady, too. I don't have cable, was the BH truck "real"? or just some custom fab'd look-alike?
|

The truck was at the ralph foster museum at the college of the ozarks (In Missouri) for years. The real truck.
http://www.rfostermuseum.com/ Did they really sell it? The original? |
Holy moly got money lol

The real truck wasn't a truck at all.
Originally it was a 1923 Oldsmobile Touring Car. Like what happened to a lot of Model T's, someone cut off the back of the body behind the front seat, and mounted a flatbed. Hollywood did the rest. Another "movie car" example was the 1924 Hudson 4 door sedan used in the film "The Grapes of Wrath." Here's another example of a cut off body, except in this case, a stake bed was added. |
i dunno . seen the same response on another site about the museum . he said it's still there . if thats the case someone pulled a fast one on some dumb rich rube , who know thinks he's got jed and graany's ride !

This Beverly Hillbillies "truck" reminds me of all the 1934 Ford Fordor sedans that are around that claim to be the real Bonnie and Clyde "Death Car." I've seen examples in Iowa and Florida...both are fakes. The real car went on a national tour, after B&C were killed. Side show promotors then made up a bunch of phony copies. The way to tell the real one (if it still exists) is it was a Deluxe, the two fakes I've seen were standard models. The fakes have bullet holes in the wrong place, showing shots that came from the passenger side-impossible since Frank Hamer & posse were shooting at the drivers side.

I missed that! I did see Tony Stewart's car go for over 400 thousand and that was after they threw in his fire suit, Helmet, Signed poster and Tony's ring. What did the Batmobile copy go for, I saw it come up but had to answer the phone so i missed the final price.

Here's a link to the complete docket;
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...h/carlist.aspx You can see what has sold, what hasn't and what kind of money was paid. You can get pics too. Be patient, the site is very slow. Bobby |
I am thinkin' the B.H. truck was a copy--but was promoted as real-deal! Especially with GEORGE BARRIS signature and misc. at sale.....Number Dummy--is there anything automotive-wise you are unfamiliar with? I wonder if you do genealogy? ......Bill

Two different cars entirely. No geneology...have waaaay too many other interests...besides vehicles. |
Did not see the BH truck, went to the link someone sent and saw that there was a 52 Ford Armored Truck that sold, it really looked good to me. The prices at this Auction make me glad for what I have already. Where do these people get the money??

The Barrett-Jackson site is whacked. Cant get the BH truck to load even after I disable the pop up blocker???
I saw the truck last night but something just didn't seem right. I watched nearly every episode when I was growing up and something just seems off (maybe it's just color vs. black and white??). Based on the commentary by the speed channel as well as the supporting documents that were supposedly sold with the car, it is the original BH car by George Harris. The dude with the museum must be the fake? You be the Judge. http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/pix/beverly_hi...es_cp_7347.jpghttp://ads.carcrazycentral.com/Georg...billiesCar.jpg Here's the commentary from the speed channel coverage. It lists the articles of authenticity. http://www.speedtv.com/fantasybid/ca...68d138f2b4fdd6 |
I suppose this must be the real deal. I would think if you bought it,and it was not--a big law suit would be in order. And if you can afford to buy a barrett-jackson auction car--you might still be able to afford a paralegal LOL Bill
