Odd Fuel Color
Last week I cleaned my FPR screen and took a peak inside the fuel bowl. I've noticed the fuel was a bluish color, but the more I read on this forum I hear its a bad thing. I change the fuel filter every other oil change and only run Hess diesel, which I know they move alot of by me.

There are more pics in the link in my sig. http://inlinethumb05.webshots.com/36...500x500Q85.jpg |
I've got that same stuff, but less than you. I buy my fuel from pilot. This stuff is kinda like flakes of white stuff.
|
i'd flush that out, and buy some good shell or BP fuel!
|
I've already flushed out the bottom of the housing, but after 10k miles its still there. Its flakes suspended in the fuel than settles out and forms a mass on the bottem of the filter housing. Pilot is a travel center off I80 and I77 here in ohio that must serve atleast 100 semis a day. Dont the fuel tanks have some kind of coating inside of them?

edit: double post
|
the filter looks too clean? that looks like an algae bloom but you should have more slimy sludge inthere. odd coloration,i would add algae treatment and some water seperator
|
2'nd pic looks like water in fuel. Drained mine a couple weeks ago in containter and sat outside then rained a bit, not much but looks the same.
|
yeah, i agree with the second pic but it looks like its pretty calm in there. i would say catch some in a clear pan and let it sit for an hour or 2 and see if the water droplets will form.

Are you using any fuel additives .. if so and what brand and amout ? Not an expert in this area but just maybe as I think major diesel dealers might add winter blends.
|
Second question .. is your "Water In Fuel' sensor still connected. Seems like this winter almost every time I fill up I get at least 1 "Water In Fuel" light and just drain about 5 seconds the the rest of tank is OK. Go figure !!!!
|
yeah that day i completely drained and flushed it with the with bottle power service (all that I had on hand) tomorrow i'm gonna look in there and see how it looks. if its still like that i'm gonna drain it into a clear container like you guys suggested. (if i can find where the spout is so it does not spill all over my IFS)
84-250- thats exactly what my mess looks like, flaky stuff floating around in the fuel and then settles at the bottom. Hussler- i did notice the 'water in fuel' light flashing before I flushed it and i dont recall seeing it since. 2 stroke- hess is pretty much the best around here, dont have a BP or a shell nearby joe- did the algae stuff you used ever work? and what was it called? maybe i got algea in its early stages :/ |
Hard to see but first pict looks like air in fuel. Looks to be making its way to the top.
The little flakes you see are they sort of a grey/silver? The flakes can come from the pump or tank delamination. Bill |

True also possible. Galv and #2 dont get along. Bill |

my fuel goes right from the pump into my tank i dont use any portable tanks.. hopefully its not from the inside of my tanks. maybe from hess's in ground tanks? next time I fill up I'm gonna try going to a different station and see if it makes a difference. How about the blue color? is that the color diesel is supposed to be? |
