Oil for 2000 Expedition?

I just bought a 2000 Expedition XLT 5.4
Just wanted to know if I should use Motorcraft Synthetic Blend Motor oil?
5W30 or 5W20?
Also does anyone use Rislone Engine Treatment?
Thanks ~Gage~

I always use full syn 5W20, the motorcraft should be fine. I would not use the engine treatment unless you really need it.

Use what the owners manual suggests.
Wal mart has the best price on Motorcraft filters and syn blend Motorcraft oil.
Some come in 5 qt bottles too.
Use only Motorcraft oil filters, and you will be good to go.

I use Castrol in all my trucks, but I will stay with Motorcraft in my 07 Explorer though.

I went from 10w 30 to 5w 30 and now to 5w 20. Biggest thing I noticed is oil consumption. The 10w 30 and the 5w 20 seem to burn it up the most (maybe even more with the 5w 20), with the 5w 30 requiring little or no addition on a 5k mile oil change. You're in a cold area, so you might want to give the semi-syn 5w 20 a try. I think I'll go back to the 5w 30 at the next change.

Only problems we've had with ours has been minor things with the air ride suspension: replaced a faulty connector and put in a new pump. Oh yeah, had to put a new alternator in too. We have just 47k on ours now...

Good luck with your new ride!

Your model year uses 5w-30.

5w-20

By this Ford TSB below, your vehicle apparently is approved for 5W-20, which is supposed to improve mileage. I switched from 5W-30 to 5W-20 on my 5.4 and did notice an increase in mileage; and I use only the Motorcraft approved synth blend 5W-20 and an approved Ford oil filter. I gave up on using anything else back at about 40k. It runs fine on 5W-20. BTW, forget about Rislone.

ISSUE
Ford Motor Company now recommends SAE 5W-20 viscosity grade for servicing most gasoline and flexible fueled vehicles.

ACTION
All 2001 and 2002 vehicles where SAE 5W-20 is specified should be serviced at the recommended oil change intervals using SAE 5W-20. This oil is an improved formulation to improve fuel economy.

Testing has validated this viscosity grade can be used in many previous model year vehicles. It is recommended ALL vehicles on the following Vehicle Application Listing be service with SAE 5W-20.

All 2001-2002 vehicles other than those listed in the "Exception 2001 Vehicles" or "Exception 2002 Vehicles" chart are being filled with SAE 5W-20 motor oil at the factory and should also be serviced with SAE 5W-20 oil.

Exception 2001 Vehicles

Exception 2002 Vehicles

NOTE IF VEHICLE IS NOT LISTED IN THIS APPLICATION, SAE 5W-30 OIL IS RECOMMENDED. REFER TO TSB 99-8-16.
