The official WAFTE injury discussion thread

Got this idea from the "Ailments" thread in general section and thought we could start our own.
Basically just a thread to discuss (complain?) our injuries past and present.
Try to include info about the injury, cause, symptoms etc. I just used a list style to tell about mine.

Here are my serious injuries to date

Body part: Right Knee
Injury: Shattered bone that protrudes from inner side of joint (dont remember the technical name), stress fractured the joint itself, torn both miniscusis, ripped my ACL, torn almost all the rest of the cartilege
Symptoms: Constant pain, occasional swelling, bone on bone contact with every step (as weight is put on it i hear/feel CLICK, accompanied by pain), pain is made worse by sharp impacts, gives me a limp that i can hide (with effort)
Cause: Many years of injuried i failed to get treated (I HATE going to the doctors...)from sports and stupidity and work. Baseball, basketball, track, X-country, rock climbing, work, stupid showboating

Body Part: Left knee (AKA the "good knee")
Injury: Torn cartilege
Symptoms: occasional pain/swelling
Cause: same as right knee

Body part: Head
Injury: An estimated 15 concussions (no way to confirm some other than observing pupil dialation)
Symptoms: Occasional sharp or throbbing pain, terrible short term memory, suspected nerve damage, occasional sight problems, my head feels "spacey" sometimes for no reason
Cause: Repeated blows to head. Mainly from falls off things, failed jumps over things, falls while rock climbing, my friend hitting me with his truck, etc.

Body part: Right little finger
Injury: Broken 3 times
Symptoms: suprisingly little pain, but cant straighten finger all the way
Cause: caught in basketball net, quading, fight

Body part: Ribs
Injury: Broken/fractured alot, crushed front of rib cage when i was really young (luckily when your that age your bones are like green wood, they bend dont break so i ended up with a dent in my chest instead of punctured lungs)
Symptoms: Occasional pain, dent in chest (great conversation starter)
Cause: Jumping/falling off my a chair and catching myself with my chest on the arm of my friends couch. All the other broken ribs from fights, rock climbing falls, my friend hitting me with truck (same one as concussions, 2000 F350 PSD w/ ranch hand grill guard, ouch!)

Now between all these injuries i am guarenteed to be in some sort of pain at all times, which has been a good thing because through living with it my pain tolerance is incredible, which lets me power through any situation. I gotta say that the worst is when i wake up and my knee is in that spot where bone hits bone and i have to fully bend or straighten my leg and the bones just grind together...thats the most intence pain ive ever felt.

Now i dont really worry about all this stuff, i just saddle up and keep going.
And yes i'l admit that a fair share of these occured through bets, my pride wont let me turn down many challenges. The song by Chris Cagle called "Cause the chicks dig it" basically explains my philosophy on life

Now obviously i didnt post the whole story about any of those, but if anyone is interested i'l be more than happy to elaborate on any you want to hear about.

Just my foot/ankle at this time. Achellis Tendon, left foot. Too much fun in the snow and not enough to drink at that time.

Blew my knee out way back when I was around 8, and have never had it fixed,,, Tore my rotator cuff in '95 and never had it fixed. Took four years before I could raise my hand above my shoulder!! No broken bones, but have had a broken nose... When I was 35, I was told that I needed a hip replacement, but they won't do the precedure on someone so young... Doctors!! Well, you need it, but we won't give it to you!!

Many minor injuries that have accounted for major pain as I get older!!

If I had known I'd live this long, I would have taken MUCH better care of myself!! But, alas, I am what I am and Advil and Anti-Inflammitory drugs are my best friends now!! I would take something stronger, but my employer has a zero-tolerence policy regarding drugs and alcohol on the job!! Go figure!!

Amputated left big toe and crushed the other 2 age 4. Dropped grass clippers into foot age 5. Broke left elbow age 8. Broken collar bone age 18. Fractured shoulder blade age 25 Impinged ulnar nerve requiring 2 releases age 37. The top of my head looks like a train yard due to all the stitches, butterflies and just plain old cuts. Several broken ribs over the years. Several broken fingers. Both knees are shot add infinitum.

Knees are about done, lots of lower back pain, pinched ulnar nerve in my left elbow, and just had two teeth pulled today since they tried to merge.

Yeah I can breath. Took about a day... I'm surprised I haven't done more with everything I get myself into!

godblessmud 01-13-2008 02:24 AM

what sorts of "stuff" do you get into?

BabyBunny 01-13-2008 02:25 AM

Jumping off with a bungy would be fun, until you hit the side or a blade...
