What rims all fit?
 

Can anyone tell me what all rims would fit late 70's 8 lug ford axles? I have been told that all 8 lug ford rims up until 96 will work. Is that true? Also will any dodge or chev 8 lug rims fit? If so what years?

Ford went to metric wheels in 1997 on F Series trucks....

almost. but try again...

F-250 and F-350 Ford went metric in 98 - so 97 wheels still fit. Van wheels will fit up to 03 I believe.

Plus the 98-03 truck wheels CAN fit - it just takes drilling and sleeving them. I have 02 Excursion wheels on my 75 crew right now. I'm not a big fan of the look so I'm replacing with 98-00 truck wheels. I can put pics in my gallery if you want.

Well I wont be doing any drilling or sleeving..... So Ford 8 lug rims up till 97 will fit and nothing from dodge or gm? I have 16.5's right now and am looking at getting some 16s. Now atleast I know what Im lookin for.

Yes both dodge or chevy rims have the same lug pattern. The problem with SOME chevy rims is that the center hole in the rim will not fit over the larger hubs on our Fords, so they don't fit without modification either.

This has been covered many times - perhaps this should become a sticky?

Ok I wont even bother looking at GM rims then since Im not into trying to modify rims! What years of Dodge rims are the same bolt pattern and have the same size center opening?

I haven't ever heard of someone having an issue with Dodge rims fitting - but that doesn't mean there aren't ones out there that would cause a problem.

ALL Chevy and dodge 8 lug are the same as old Ford (pre 98). Chevy and Dodge never had the brain fart idea to change to Metric:-lamesign

Thanks for the information. This was just about the exact same question I was going to ask with our '75 F250. Same problem, 16 1/2 wheels...very expensive tires (found that out by talking to the local firestone).. Plus the prior owner already put a set of 16's on the rear end. If all things being equal? If I'm understanding this right.

Our local yard has a set of E250 wheels from a ford van dated 1993. Now if that used (not sure, as my memory is fuzzy) a 8 lug wheel? Then it should fit our '75 F250? (it's a 16"x7") If so? They are asking a fair price for the wheels, and the 7" width would make life more simple to upgrade the current tires to a more meaty 235ish size.

yes those wheels will fit, fit a 235 86 16 nicely, good luck

yeah those E-350 rims will fit, and they might even be the ones I have been looking for (8 hole aluminum design) to put on my 74 crew cab. If they are snag them up. They are VERY strong and look great on our trucks!

As a general note 16.5" rims don't have an inside bead on the wheel itself. I beleive they were made fow towing and support heavier loads, but they loose a bead VERY easily if the air pressure gets low.

oh - and yeah that's better. Just trying to get the guy the CORRECT info...

F-150's went metric in 97 with the release of the new body style. The F-250 and F-350's went in 98 with the release of that new body style

I had 97 dodge wheels on my other 78 before i sold it. No problems at all. I did find out that halfton dodge wheels have the same pattern as ford. but dodge had full tiem 4wd and the lock outs on older fords wouldnt fit through the holes in the center. Just thought id throm that in there

Good to know on the Dodge wheels. I hadn't heard that before but it sounds like the same thing as I ran into on th Chevy wheels.

Ok...almost tire time. I found a decent deal on the C-List and talked with the seller. American racing 8 lug wheels that he used to use on a 1 ton chevy truck. He stated he is aware of the floating jumbo axle..and these wheels should fit on our truck without any issues at all. They are made to fit before the metric wheels hosed up things.

According to the reply:

At this time I told him it was for a 1975 F250 with the Jumbo-Tron rear axle with the huge hub sticking out.

The wheels are as mentioned "American Racing" brand. And he's going to include the lug nuts and center rings for the rear wheels. He's also asking a pretty decent price, considering how much the salvage yard is asking for wheels and hub caps in order to do the same thing.

Any feedback I should be aware of? He seems pretty dead certian they will fit on the 1975 F250 without any problems.
