Christmas Vacation
Is anybody going on a Christmas Vacation?
I'm going to Petit Jean WMA in Arkansas. |
I'll be home from work this Christmas. The first time in a couple of years. I just plan on staying around the house visiting family and friends. My daughter is 3 now. So this Christmas should be really fun.
|
Going to Mom's for Christmas, then to camp in Monterey for duck hunting.
|
I'm going to my Mom's too. We are leaving that following Friday for Arkansas.
|
Good luck and I hope the birds fly for you. I haven't been this year. My cousins boat got stole a couple weks ago. We need it to get where we were hunting. Aluminum flat bottom with the hyperdrive motor.
|
That stinks about the boat theft. Took my daughter hunting this weekend, her first trip (she's 11 years old). Been hunting with my 2 sons for 5 or 6 years now. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy another shotgun for her. Ducks finally showed up.. First split was bad. Our group took about 12 speckle-belly geese, and prolly 30-35 ducks over the weekend, so it's encouraging.
|
During the season I duck hunt just about every day that I'm off. Your right about the first split there was no ducks at all expect for a few wood ducks. This past weekend was great especially Sunday, Saturday was kind of hot.
Its always good when you get to add another gun to the collection. |
That's true (adding a gun), but it'll be a Remington 870 Youth. I'm dreading all the 'other' stuff. Layout blinds, camo, chest waders, etc. It gets expensive having to do it 4 times. I just thought it was expensive before I had 3 kids. But it's all worth it. Keeps 'em off the street and with me, and we have a blast.
I only get to hunt weekends and the occasional long weekend. Where do you hunt? |
On our farm in Lena well actually in Marco if you can find that on the map, we have an 80 acre oxbow lake and two crawfish ponds we hunt in.
How about you? |
We're in Monterey, Jonesville, Ferriday area... If I found the right Lena on Google Earth, about 65 miles due east of you. 640 Acres of old catfish ponds turned into rice fields. A stones throw from the Bayou Cocodrie NWA.
|
That sounds like a great hunting spot. My mama lives on Catahoula Lake, we do some hunting there.
|
It is usually pretty good. We've had some exceptionally good years, and some so-so years, but never a really bad one. Worse year was when farmer planted soybeans instead of rice. Just didn't draw the ducks/geese like the rice does.
We just bought a camp on Bayou Cocodrie, so now we'll be able to do some fishing and deer hunting in the WMA that's right next door. |
I am gonna go visit the folks...same as every holiday. Just sucks this will be the first holiday I am 'alone' in a long time :/
Hah, I'll be drivin right by a few of you on my trip down thursday or friday..maybe saturday. |
Jimmy Dean, where are your folks from?
|
Baton Rouge, Prairieville to be precise..and the Pierre Part area as well
