Cat 3406B or C, and a Cummins KTTA19, what else would you need? Skip the ISX, go with the big dog. The only comparable engine to the Cummins 19 litre is a CAT 3408, or Mack E9.

I would have to go for nostalgia and go back to the rig i learned on a Freightliner cabover with a 318 detroit and a 4 and 4 trans. Yea, not the most powerful by any means, but, there ain't no sound like a 2 stroker winding out.

a real Detroit is a 12V92TT, with a 5X5 trans setup.

the 318 was a hell of a motor in its day and I thought had a nice sound but I think my ears are still ringing 30 years later from detroit scream

was the freightliner you drove a white freightliner with air shift or a later model
the air shift was a bear to get use to

I have driven 5 9 10 13 15 18 4x4 5x4 6x4 4x4 air shift seen 5x4 air shift never driven tho weird mack trannys but have never seen or heard of 5x5. the stock kta's would not pull with isx cum. could be modded but would not work in todays world because of fuel cost.

The old KT Cummins are expensive to fix. I know one of the log haulers was looking at a off highway HDX with Cummins KT power he said to me they got lots of power but when they need rebuilding they cost 3 times more to repair than the same truck with 12v71 power which most old Hayes HDX were powered with.

It is pretty hard to beat the current engines for power and fuel economy.

1969 Autocar. 12V92TT Detroit, with a 5 speed main trans, and a 5 speed auxiliary trans, and 100ton planitary drive axles in it. first gear was around 1/4 mph, and top speed was around 52mph.

i pulled a 500 ton sectional trailer with it. i forget the name of it, but it was made in Italy. there were 32 tires per section, and there was a total of 15 or 16 sections.
each of the sections could steer independently of the others for tight turns, and could raise and lower somewhere around 36 inches. average tow speed was 10 mph loaded, but i could go top speed empty if i wanted to.

444 is a Navstar motor NOT CUMMINS

But, Cummins had an engine (N14)rated at 444hp.

Actually it was NTC 444 = non computer. The n14 series was the computerized models. Then theres the big cam motors which we won't get into.
and that is the cummins engine we are talking about.
Not the t-444 e Navistar engine that is very close in DNA to the 7.3 liter that is in our pickups

I like the old A model Kenworths they are a nice looking truck. The orignal smokey and the bandit movie sort of iconized the old A model. In that movie they had one that was Cat powered and I'am pretty sure the other one was 318 Powered.

I think those two trucks drag racing are both Cat powered or the Pete it Cat powered judging by the black smoke. You turn up the fuel in a Cat it will belch black just like in the you tube video.
