F150-to-F250 conversion?
 

Is it possible (practical) to take the front and rear ends, and the springs from a 89 F250, and put them on a 90 F150. The reason I'm asking is I have a 90 2wd F150. A friend of mine just bought a wreaked 89 4wd F250 for the motor. He said I could have the rest of the truck if I could use it. So really I would like to try to build a 4wd 3/4 ton out of a 2wd 1/2 ton. Or would this be more trouble than its worth?

It's probably way less trouble to put your motor into the 4wd chassis. I doubt very much that the front end of the frames on the 4x4 and 2x4 are the same, so there would be a lot of fab work involved to get the leaf spring mounts hung properly. Also keep in mind that the F250 uses the goofy swing axle front end, and the necessary mounts/brackets etc. for those would be a pain to transfer to the 2wd frame. I'd put your motor and straight panels on the F250 and call it good.

I would use the 3/4 ton frame and running gear and put your cab etc on it.
I think the frame is thicker material than on the 1/2 ton one.

it is big work, depending on your ability of course, to do a 4wd conversion on something as compared doing a body and engine swap.

Fronts of the frames are not the same; the D50 ttb (Twin-Traction-Beam) is not a bolt-on on the F150 frame. Pivot points are different and the F250 uses leaf springs vs. coils on the F150.

I'll fourth the idea of swapping the engine and sheetmetal onto the 3/4 ton frame if possible. If the F250 frame is bent from the wreck, you can convert your F150 to 4wd using the transmission and t-case, but you'll have to find a D44 ttb out of another F150 or Bronco from 80-96. That axle assembly will actually bolt in place of the Twin-I-Beam 2wd front axle you have now.

And if you just want to (like myself) you can swap in the Sterling 10.25 rear axle from the F250 and convert the D44 ttb to 8 lug using chevy hubs and spindles. At least the drivetrain would be 3/4 ton if not the rest of the truck.

Please tell me you didn't just suggest using Chevy parts on a Ford! :-D

i am with the majority as well. hang the parts off your truck on the wrecked 250 it will be worth it. well unless your 4x2 is a 4.9

I am really sorry to tell you this. Bad news it is. But, years ago the "Big 3" shared a lot of common parts - transfer cases, transmissions, rear ends, etc. Dodge and chevy 6 bolt wheels were identical.

As were Dodge/Chevy/Ford 8 lug wheels. My snow tires for my truck are mounted on wheels that came off my 87 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4. I was just flingin' some crap giving Tom92F150 a hard time :-X25
