tranny temp code ???

I have a 99 powerstroke automatic trans no mods. The o/d light was flashing so I had it scanned and it showed I had a high trans temperature over 300 but I knew the tranny wasn't hot so does anybody know if there is a sensor on the tranny and where it would be?

There is a sensor. It is located on the solenoid body. The sensor is not replacable by itself, you need to replace the solenoid body.

There could also be a wiring problem that can cause this. It isn't necessarily a bad sensor.

how do you know it wasn't hot? do you have a temp gauge on it? If so do you really trust the gauge over the onboard sensor? Just asking.

Mark, as a former Ford Tranny Engineer can you please explain to me the logic that requires a complete assembly be replaced rather than a design that allows for just the sensor replacement? Is this maybe one of those vendor part cost issues?

No, I can't. I wasn't involved with the design of that trans. I suspect that it was cost, but I really don't know. Most other transmissions do have a replacable temp sensor.

I know it wasn't hot because the truck had not been driven enough to get the transmission that hot.The scanner was showing a little bit over 300 degrees it shifts and drives just fine.I am going to check the wiring and I appreciate the info I wasn't to worried because it hasn't given me any trouble its just one of those things that bugs the crap out of you.
