2007 sport trac trans/no dipstick????

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I have a 2007 sport trac 4x4 with the 4.0 engine and I need to fill the trans with fluid as there was some collision damage and I need to change the trans cooler as well as lines, what fluid does this truck use and how do I refill the fluid, sounds like you refill through the pan drain plug as there isn't a dipstick/tube???? Thanks for any info that some one can give me.

5R55N/5R55W

Fluid Check Procedure:

Drive vehicle until transmission is at operating temperature. Raise vehicle on hoist. Make SURE it is level. With the transmission in Park and the engine idling, remove Oil level check plug from bottom center of transmission pan as shown in Figure 1. (It is the allen head plug in the center of the drain plug. HOLD THE DRAIN PLUG WITH A WRENCH TO PREVENT LOOSENING IT!) When full, fluid should just trickle out this hole.

Fluid Fill Procedure:

The fill plug is located in the extension housing (see Figure 2) on the 5R55N and toward the back of the case on the passenger side (see Figure 3) on the 5R55W. It is filled here BUT checked as shown above in the Fluid Check Procedure.

NOTICE!
These transmissions require Mercon V fluid

Would you have the 5R55S diagram?

These are great pictures. Would you have the diagrams for the 5R55S transmission? I have a '08 Sport Trac with this transmission and I need to change the fluid and filter. I've never done this on a vehicle that does not have a dipstick, so I have no clue where the fill plug is located, what type of plug it is, torx, allen or hex head and how I can access it to fill the transmission after the drain.

Thank you.

You don't need a diagram for the 5R55S, all these are setup up the same way and are filled on the same principle.

Thank you for the information. Tomorrow, I'm changing the rear differential fluid so I'll be able to search for the fill plug on my transmission when I'm under the truck. I just want to be 100% sure of the fill plug location before I drain the transmission.

I have a 05 sport trac and notice that the dipstick for the tranny is hidden pretty l good, on my 4.0 it is located underneath the upper radiator hose, might help ya out

Changed the rear differential fluid. This was straight forward; drain plug, fill plug. Did not even have to remove differential cover. Unfortunately, the transmission does not have a fill plug, much less a dipstick. Going to have to see if some company makes an after market transmission fluid fill pump tool.

Thanks for the post.

Hey Carl. Welcome to FTE!

Here are pictures showing the check plug and fill plug for the 5R55N transmission.

If these are not what you need, just shout out and we'll see what we can do.
