deer calls/bleats/rattles? anybody use them?

just wondering if any body uses these types of things when they are deer hunting, and if they made a difference? Just for giggles,I bought a doe bleat call before season started and used it on a young buck that was trotting by me,thinking he was sneaky. I hit the call button twice, and he stopped dead in his tracks, and gave me a broadside shot which I promptly missed because my shot hit a branch right in front of him  but anyhow,i was just wondering if it was the actual call that stopped the deer or just the sudden noise? I have heard of guys whistling at a running deer and the deer will stop also.

Whistling at a deer or just a hey will stop 'em. I use a grunt, set of horns I cut off a deer about 9 yrs ago, and a rattle bag. I try to make the sitution seem to be a couple smallish bucks are sparring. This has gotten me some very nice 8-10 pointer coming in to check it out. Any time I've tried to sound like to mature bucks fighting I dont have any costumors coming in. I've chaulked it up to any buck in the area thinks that if 2 bucks are fighting that hard they wont notice him taking off with the sweetheart so he's out of range looking forthe ol' girl.
