The hose goes to your smog pump (air pump) that's probly also the sucking noise......

No it doesn't, unless someone put it there by accident.

The hose is: D4ZZ-9D667-A .. Corrogated Flex Hose

It runs from the charcoal cannister to a plastic nipple (held on by a clip) on the aircleaner that connects to the emission ventilation filter (E7TZ-9D695-A-Motorcraft FA-1047).

Smog pump hoses are made from neoprene.

The hose is available from Ford ~ Suggested list price: $19.80

FYI: "coffee can" is a slang term for a vacuum reservoir tank, not for a charcoal cannister.

Sorry, number dummy you're right....I remember pulling it from there now.....

I have a diagram...but sorry I can't pass it along...as it's on Ford parts microfiche slides.

I have that same hose and it just hangs there open. It comes off of that cylindrical thing in front of it. I think it some sort of filter for the smog pump.

So am i to assume that this hose just hang down, and connects to nothing. seem very odd considering a amount of air this hose sucks. but in the additional pictures it looks that way.
thank for help from those that posted. i also seen the so called coffee can refered to several time here on FTE. i also seen that my truck does not have this can.
i will research more on this 171 code.
I also got P0174 today (bank 2) am i assuming wrong that i should not have a bank 2 on an inline 6 engine.

I think Ford upgraded the "coffee can" to a plastic resevoir after 94 or 95. My 94 has the can.

up date of situation i just replace fuel pump and after about 10-15 miles the check engine light went out. funny thing is the engine ran fine and pressure for fuel was with in range on low side. but yesterday i was on highway and completely lost throttle. stalled and would not restart.this lead me to fuel pump.

so now all is well. after some time trying to track down source.

Thats great news! I know it took you a while, but you got it. Sometimes its hard to find out what the actual problem is. Congrats!

thanks. all total about a month of troubleshooting, then replace all vacuum hoses to make sure all are new(rather brittle) then rechecking from start and finally pump complete dumps. just glad i found it with minium cost. fuel pump change at a garage for less than $100 that is less than i priced pumps for. could not pass the chance especially right off a major highway.
