223 engine freeze plugs

I have developed a really bad water leak from the rear of my 223 in line six cylinder. It is coming from an area that looks like a freeze plug that is about halfway visible above the transmission.

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of exactly what it is that is in the back of the block? Any tips/ tricks for dropping the transmission to get to this location?

There's a cup type core plug (freeze plug) at the back of the cylinder head, it's the same size as the three in the left side of the block: 2.072" O.D. Changing that plug can be difficult. I've seen ppl cut a hole in the firewall to get at it. About the only other choice is pulling the engine.

The leak is not coming from the freeze plug at the back of the head, or even the head gasket. The freeze plug in the head was my first thought, but when I pressurized the system the leak is coming out just above the transmission. Has anyone had any experience with a leak from this area?
