1997 F-150 4.6L 4X4 Oil Filter Location
 

I must be going crazy!!! I decided that I've been paying way too much to have my oil and oil filter changed on my '97 F-150 4.6L 4X4 truck (w/ oil and transmission cooler). So, I go ahead and buy the oil and filter, then drain the engine oil. Then I spend the next hour looking for the oil filter. I can't find it anywhere. I crawl around underneath the truck, in the engine compartment, look in every nook and cranny, but no oil filter. Finally, after it starts getting dark, I give up and refill the crankcase with fresh oil (with the old oil fitler).

Any ideas would be appreciated. I feel like an idiot.

Ford used an oil filter relocation assembly on your truck, look behind the front bumper, drivers side, real easy to get to.

The oil filter is on the drivers side directly above the front differential. The filter barely fits up thru the steering linkage, but it does fit.

It should be located by the drivers side front wheel.
