Plow on a Bronco
 

A friend of mine is picking up a 79 Bronco and is looking for some snow plow advice. Would a plow just have to be for a Bronco? How about one of a 77 F150? Thanks, George

I dont see why not! but in my opinion , putting a plow on these just destroys the front ends, the king pins are not heavy enough for all the abuse they take, 250,s and 350's are much better suited for this with bigger pins, but if you are not doing alot of heavy plowing I'm sure it will be fine, now dont get me wrong they will do the job ! they just wear out quicker than the other's

In general, with a few exceptions, parts and attachments are interchangeable between Broncos and F150s of comparable vintage.

Your friend might also want to consider heavy duty or F250 front coils, plus a tranny cooler (if AT) for snow plowing.

I ran the 1/2 tons all time with plow had a 78 for 10 years . Just keep repacking bearings every year . As for pins No more often to replace unless you will be running on road all time . But for a drive or 2 they r fine. Get F350 2x4 front coils and air bags . Theses are great short and easy to get around.

I just bought both a 1988 Bronco and a 1989 F150. Having worked for Ford a long while, I know that those two trucks had the same front end. I bought the truck because it had a plow on it, and I wanted to put a plow on my Bronco. So, I just unbolted the bumper off the Bronco and then unbolted the plow assembly (with bumper still attached) from the F150 and swapped them. I don't remember all the years, but I'm pretty sure the 1979 Bronco had a TTB front end, which should be the same as the F150. In any case, as long as they both had the TTB front end, you can do the swap.

1979 bronco had a Solid front axle..

1980 is the first year of the TTB.

a 79 bronco had ball joints not king pins. I know alot of people plow with older half tons. Not commercially.

They work fine for plowing. I've plowed with a couple of them. The short wheelbase definetly has it's advantages. The brown Bronco was only used for my driveway.

Ya know maybe its just the newer broncos that I was thinking of? the only reason I say it tears up the front ends is because I've seen broncos that were used for alot of plowing and their front wheels were crooked from all the abuse they took hitting piles of snow with the plow while the 4 wheel was engaged? and I was told that it tears them up? I do not have first hand exsperiance with it myself
