East Side Off Roading!

Hey guys been checking out the chapters forums, considering joining! this looks like a great lil club. Well anyways im from around detroit and there is NOWHERE to go offroading. i usually stroll around a construction site for about 15 minutes but obviously this is illegal. i got my ORV license and planned to go up to gennese parks ORV trails. is this worth it? any advice? and one last question - anywhere on the east side to go off roading? thanx guys, ill stay informed of meets and hopefully join sometime soon.

Ya the mounds - im from Farmington. so its definitely worth the trip?

what kind of vehicle do you take off-roading?

I got an o6 dodge ram 1500 stock (POS - runflat tires, asking to get stuck in ANYTHING) and then my favorite - my 01 f250 PSD. not lifted or anything but it holds its on in pretty deep mud. nothing extreme though (all 4x4),

Some spots in the mounds are okay.

dont go in the mud bog hole though. you'll def get stuck. you need a BIG truck in there. Holy crap are they deep.

There is some fun in there though if you wanna have fun, just bring a toe rope and a buddy along to pull your ass out.

i got a story about dodges for you, ready......

well my truck is in my comment, no lift or anything. but my buddy has a 2000 ram 1500 quadcab 5.9L 4x4 lifted 7 in on 35" tires and 4.10 gears front and rear. well we would always go out as a group along with my other buddy who has a bronco w/ 6" suspension lift and 35" mudders. well on some days we would go out the dodge would get stuck and the only thing able to get him out was my truck, i ripped off both of his front tow hooks doing this(have the chain make in the tailgate to prove this). ive even yanked the bronco out a few times! its wicked how much the tires and driver account for what you can accomplish off the pavement. i dont like dodge but i work at a dodge dealer, odd huh?

blue oval by blood......horns by paycheck!

mud bog hole haha, wasn't planning on it. sounds like a fun time. does this chapter ever take trips up together?

Talyn 10-30-2007 10:38 PM

We dont have a lot of mud guys I dont think actually. Lots of guys who want to do some trail rideing. I would like to eventually set something like that up.
My buddy goes to the mounds every now and then. I woudlnt' dare take my truck in there, i could probably take it on some of the trails, but why ruin my clutch and other things with as finicky as it is.

There are some pretty deep water holes, and lots of slippery slidy spots where you think your okay, but your going to go down into the pit your trying to avoid.
It's not a bad place, but dont take a long truck, a short bed 4x4 is your best bet.
Some of the trails in there are really narrow.
There is a 4wheeler place out there with sand, regular truck trails, and small truck trails, as well as the mud hole, which is a dangerous place. I was watching the Fords tear it up in there the day i was there. Was friggen scary spot, so dont go in the mud holes. they basically have been tore up and broke in by serious mudboggers, not just some everday guys.

uh... thats about all i can think of. Its pretty fun place. I dont think i'd go all the time.

The day i went there, some guy tried to take his hummer out there and got it stuck in the water.
when we came out to go to mt morris road, its an incline, it was setting there bearly running with water just draining out of the tail pipes.

Give me good enough notice on when your going and i might be able to meet you there, and maybe a few other people along with me.

Wow funny u should mention a long truck...does 250 CC with an 8ft bed constitute long truck? hahah . definitely im planning in about a month and a half. dont have an exact date but ill let you know. thanks!

150mudder 10-31-2007 07:22 AM

yea im game for sure, just let me know a time and date.

Talyn 10-31-2007 09:22 AM

I think the mounds is closed the guys.
I dont think it stays open all winter long.

takeing a crew cab in there might not be the best idea either.
