fuel mixture - too rich
hi there, i have a 88 f150 with a fuel injected 300i6, what would cause my truck to run too rich. i'll take any sugestions, i;m a courier driver and i prefer not to spend 50 bucks a day on gas. It was running good until i put some injector cleaner in it. I also cleaned the throttle body
thanks in advance Allan |

Probably coated the O2s in the carbon from the engine- I'd replace that. If you are good at soldering, a universal O2s goes for something like $20-40.

I'm not sure if a bad FPR could let more fuel, or a higher pressure than normal, through or not.

ok, no i'm confused, drove the truck this morning and it seem to run normally. i'll run it for the day tommorrow and see how it goes. i will change the o2 sensor anyways, i don't think it's been changed for awhile
by the way, love the site, it has tons of usefull info, keep it up thanks Allan GO ESK GO |

I like replacing the 02 sensor suggestion, they are recommeneded for replacement at 50k miles. But everyone seems to get 80-100k miles out of 'em. Also, a really dirty air filter can cause a rich condition.

well, i broke down and took it to ford. Theyhooked up to the computer and it was the sensor that is basically the thermostate. i'll try that. it makes sense, if the truck thinks that it's -30C outside then it will run rich till the truck gets to proper op temp, which it doesn't.

got it fixed, it was the ECT sensor, 200cdn later and the truck runs a lot better. Next thing to work on is the hi idle, got none. I talked to the mech and he said it's the TPI / TCI thing. The best thing they normally do is just clean them, will do on sat.
once again thanks for all the help and ideas Allan |
