Thumper Weekend?

We are needing to get Thumper in shape so we can move it before Dan gets involved in his Christmas Gig.

I think it needs the tranny mounted, and the steering installed. I am still not sure about the front sheetmetal.

Would it be possible to work on it this weekend?

I can go up Saturday...

I'm tied up with the Horseshow this weekend in Santa Rosa, although I'm going to try to get by Dan's place for a bit, I won't have much time to do anything.

This doesn't work for me. I have to work for at least part of the weekend, (Sunday) and probably Saturday as well, though I plan to free up little time for Mike when he comes by. The truck is still outside, in a spot where it's not too easy to work on it. When we can get a weekend to do so I'll have to load it up on a trailer and take it to work so we can work on it in my boss's shop.

Next weekend (20th/21st) might be do-able for me but I'm not sure yet. I'll keep you posted.

K, that works. When do we need to have it moved? And if we take it out of Bud's yard, will he let us return it?

TigerDan 10-10-2007 08:42 AM

Nothing's been said to me lately about getting it out of there, but I'm sure he'll get a wild hair and drop it on me one day soon. And once I pull it out of there, I don't plan on taking it back. I'll leave it on the trailer and take it up to my brother-in-law's place or something...I'll figure it out.

OK, you know what is best. Sorry this has turned out to be such an endurance project for you.

Do we have a crossmember for the tranny? Or enough pieces to make one?

TigerDan 10-10-2007 07:23 PM

I have torches, a bandsaw and a MIG welder...I can make durn near anything (other than more money, it would seem...)

WillyB 10-10-2007 09:11 PM

The original 2wd crossmember should be there - it is for a 390/C6

3Mike6 10-10-2007 09:56 PM

Cool, I didn't know what tranny was in it before, so we can at least use the center portion of the X-member and drop as we see fit.

I gotta get me another bandsaw someday, the chop saw is good, but doesn't compare to a bandsaw for even and repeatable cuts.

Plus, there's a lot less mess with a bandsaw. You know, my Dad had one for 10-12 years, big sucker and we hardley ever used it...ended up making a castered frame so we could keep rolling it out of the way.
