2003 F-150, Gas/Propane Compuvalve

I am looking for the reason and a possible resolution for frequent failures of the compuvalve; about to replace the third in 84,000 mi. Also, is there a wiring diagram available for this system?

I think the whole system was a piece of junk and Ford won't stand behind them. Iam fighting the same thing with a 2000 f-150. There are Ford manuals on Ebay right now for this sytem and your year of production. It sounds like Ford got you past the 80000 mile warranty and now it is yours. I don't think there is anything wrong with my valve I think the AFS ecm has lost its program. And I haven't found out how to check for that condition or how to reprogam it.

These compuvalves were used on both Ford Propane and Natural Gas pick ups and vans. These trucks while sold by Ford were actual upfitted by a company called GFI in Ontario Canada. I believe if you call GFI they may sell you a replacements or rebiuld yours. The other option is a company in Dallas called BAF. Who at least for the NG versions have a replacement system which does away with the compuvalve and works much better. It is also cheaper then the compuvalve itself from GFI. I have a NG versions and the valve was replaced a few years ago while still under warranty and I managed to buy a spare from GFI at the time. This systems was not one of Ford's better ideas!

I have a 2002 f150 dual fuel(LPG). the light on the alt fuel switch turns off after a couple of seconds after turning the key. Sometimes the truck will start and run for a few miles on propane and then switch back over to gas. Ford won't touch the truck with a 10ft pole and nobody in my area can scan it. Has anyone had this same problem and is it the dreaded compuvalve? I put about 5000km a month on my truck so the cheap propane sure helps the wallet.

I have a 2001 F150 bi-fuel (LPG)with 150,000 km. I first noticed a bit of raw propane smell coming in through the heater vents. I had it checked out at the only local garage that advertises some expertise with propane vehicles. They could not find the leak but said the performancce checks were good. A couple of months ago the engine began to surge at idle and stall. I took it back to the same place and was told the leakage and the stalling is caused by compuvalve problems and the replacement cost of the part is 3,000.00. Reading here is not too encouraging but in B.C. Canada propane is half the price of gas so a repair solution would be great but 3-4 grand bites.
The vehicle runs fine on gas but sometimes when it stalls it switches over to gas without the switch being touched
Has anyone been able to contact GFI regarding replacement or rebuilding compuvalve units? Are there complications with switching to the BAF product mentioned by NGorDiesel.

I never got a reply or call back from GFI. It is like talking to a black hole.

compuvalve issues

ok i have contacted the gfi company they will not tell me anything but replace it i also found a place in california that sells alot of parts for these unit i have 3 for company vehicle one surges at idle and the other once you turn the switch on in about 2 seconds it switches off and runs on gas i found that the sending unit for the tank to be bad giving inadequate preasure not allowing to run on propane.

i have found a rebuild kit for the unit they say the actual compuvaalve computer does not go bad but the seals in the unit so you start to smell raw propane but the rebuild kit i found is only 510 dollars i can give you a part number also

they say the 2 injectors on the unit tend to leak
