For the kids what is the mileage on a V10?
 

My kids are shopping for a diesel and they are hard to find. So the real question is what is the fuel mileage on a V10? Thanks Jim

The kids are trying to decide V10 or diesel.

The diesel will be higher MPG but the question you need to ask, does the $5K-$6K extra for a diesel worth it for your needs. That $5K-$6K can buy alot of gas.

I agree that's why I am trying to find ACTUAL fuel mileage...

12 seems to be the magic number...

15 on the high side 9 on the low side as far as i have collected.

I get 10mpg city and about 12mpg on the highway... with 4.30 gears and 285/75s...

10 city and 13 or 14 highway It al just depends on what rpm and speed u do. Also if u take care of ur truck. I.E. oils changes etc

what are u goina use it for if your gona tow alot id get the diesel!heck just get the diesel anyway!lol

assume 10 mpg period. be lucky if you get 1 mpg more.

My opinion. If you are buying a truck this big then I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage.

I owned both a V10 F250, a diesel Excursion and now a diesel F250. For me...V10 = 10/14 (30" tires), diesel Excursion = 12/16 or 17 (stock tires), diesel F250 is still too new to figure but I think it's a little less than the Excursion due to bigger tires as well.

keep in mind that the v10 will be alot cheaper to maintain and are a very reliable motor.

i would do a v10 over a diesel any day.

i bought a v8 super duty for cheap to eventually put a 12v cummins into as soon as i build a shop to do it in. the conversion should cost me somewhere around 5-7 grand depending on how crazy i get with it.

Your kids are on the right track, if they want a truck this big the definatly what a diesel. The MPG on a diesel is far better than gas. The mileage also depends on what years there looking for a 2v 2004 and older theoretically get worse gas mileage than the 3v 2005 and up. I personally would go with the diesel keep looking they are out there. Anything worth getting is worth waiting for.

You have your years backwards.

Believe it or not many V10 owners report better mileage with the 2V V10 than the 3V V10. Mainly due to the fact that a 2V V10 with a 3:73 will edge out a 3V V10 with a 4:10 or 4:30 mpg wise on the highway.(05 up V10 is not available with a 3:73)


My worse mpg on my 04' SC SB AOD 6.8l 3:73LS was 8mpg in 4wd driving up in the mountains in dirt roads.

My best recorded thus far was 15mpg on back roads heading up state. I do not get many long highway trips, especially unloaded. Unloaded on a highway trip I'm confident 16mpg is easily attainable.

The intended use of the truck should take presedense over mpg.

Diesel facts:
Has more power for towing
Gets better fuel mileage
Costs more to maintain
Near metro areas, diesel fuel costs more than gas

Gas facts:
Cheaper to maintain
Fuel is cheaper
Costs less to purchase

End result is they cost the same over time when all the numbers are worked out (proven time and time again). What does this mean? Get what you want/like/can afford.

I have a V10 and get between 8-15 (8 towing 10K 5th wheel trailer, 15 hwy empty I average 12.5). The edge goes to a diesel if you are towing a MAJORITY of the time or need the extra power for towing heavy loads. If it's a grocery getter or weekend vehicle then either works fine and costs the same.

The gas diesel argument will go on for decades each side swearing they are right, sometimes rudely so. Ignore the chaff and get what you think is best.

Gas- diesel ??? Let them drive one of each and consider use.
